In any other administration, a news outlet burying a story like this during an election would be a huge deal.

Given how many fundie preachers have been caught fornicating with the ladies (or men or boys) after fulminating against such activities in the pulpit, I have little doubt that they'll defend this to the hilt. If nothing else, Trump's presidency is wrecking any serious claims the Religious Right had to morally judging others. They'll to continue to do it, of course, but to all but their most avid followers it will be clear that they are complete frauds. Sinning, it seems, is only to be condemned in liberals, not conservatives, and especially so with their beloved President Trump.

One silver lining from the Trump era is the exposure of the religious right's disgraceful hypocrisy.

It won’t matter. Everyone else already knew they were full of it. And the religious right already sold their souls for political gain awhile back.
 
Would it be legal to use campaign funds to funnel into an LLC to pay off someone?

Seriously asking. Seems like it would run afoul of at least some federal election laws even as toothless as they are.
