This week Canada announced that Viola Desmond would be pictured on the $10. She is the first Canadian woman to appear by herself on Canadian currency.

Viola Desmond was a businesswoman who trained under Madam CJ Walker and started a line of beauty products for black women in Canada. One day after a business trip to Nova Scotia, she went to see a movie. She sat in the “white section” on the main floor after refusing to move, she was forcibly removed and arrested.

This was in 1946, 9 years before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat.

Just learned about Desmond this week.

Alcohol takes a serious toll on one's body. Went big with a Black & White Ball on Friday night and a friends birthday party that included oysters and kegs. Still feeling it today, although I'm blaming it all on DST.

Maybe. Either way, it must have been a pretty good movie if she wanted to see it so bad to risk being arrested. Or, just a thought, maybe it was a shitty movie and she knew she didn't really want to see it so it would be no big deal if she ultimately was denied a chance to see it because the protest took priority.
 
I can't believe how cold Pepsi is using Michael Jackson in their commercials is. The explosion and burns Michael endured at the Pepsi commercial taping could easily be seen as the beginning of the end for him. It was then he started using pain killers.
 
They used the commercials right after they were made too. Does time somehow make it less appropriate ? He was a pop icon before and after setting his hair on fire. The thing to question is whether or not it's appropriate to use a pedophile as the spokesperson for your soft drink brand.
 
Michael Jackson talking about his penis on national TV and Pee-Wee Herman getting caught jerking it in a porn theater caused some uncomfortable conversation requirements for my parents
