My understanding was that you drop news you don’t want people to consume as closely on Friday afternoon because people tend to tune out for the weekend

Also, smart to do it on groundhog's day, so media can make a dumb joke out of it, like, "Did the FBI see its shadow, or will there be 6 more weeks of investigations."
