Wake Baseball 2018

Two of those losses were to Houston tho who wound up being a #1 seed in the NCAAT. Seems like it would be quite the surprise if anyone we've played this year reaches near that stature

donaldross will chime in to say that Wes Miller's baseball team is outstanding and that we should hire him.

At this point last season we were 5-4. So no panic....yet.

Nobody worried after that 1-3 start last year. We knew we had a star studded veteran team. The comparison is totally different. Being that we still haven’t heard anything about steel, maranpot, and farish doesn’t seem to promising.

Right now, with the suspensions, the team is incredibly young as among the starting 9, 4 freshman start (Muntz, Seymour, Lanzilli and Poteet/Harvey), and 2 sophomores (Long and Diponzo) that played very little last year are also regulars. On the mound, two other freshman have started (Shuster and Melendez), and two other sophomores (Peluse and Bach) who got limited work last year are in the weekend rotation. Even with the suspensions, this team is talented (the weekend starters have all pitched well -- Peluse 1.93 ERA, Roberts 2.92, Bach 3.48), really can see this team improving as the young players adapt to this level of baseball, but fear that it will happen too late make up for early season mis-steps.

I'm still hoping they can turn the season around too. The pitching (starters and bullpen) has largely been very good. The offense just can't seem to get the hits when they need them. Have been horrendous with runners in scoring position all season. As Pilchard said, lot of freshman and sophomores in the lineup and even our veterans aren't playing up to the level they were last year. Still time for the freshman to adjust and the vets to turn it around but definitely needs to happen soon

3 run dinger by Aiello in the B1. Should've been a grand slam but Logan Harvey was thrown behind on a Meuller single at second and got caught in a run-down.

And Christian Long gets an RBI single to bring the lead to 4-0 after 3.

Glad to hear Johnny Baseball got a hold of one.

Anyone know if this team we are playing is any good?

8-1 win for the Deacs. Roberts pitched a gem and Aiello had himself a game. Hopefully it gets his bat going consistently - we’ve missed it a lot this season so far.

Harvey is essentially a hole in the lineup right now. Aiello cannot be helping himself for the draft with terrible at bats against just average breaking balls.

At this point, making the ACC tournament should be the goal. When a small northern school can strike out double digit hitters with mid 80s fastballs, can’t expect much. We can’t depend on upperclassman who strike out 1 out of every 3 atbats to lead our offense.

5-3 L. Aiello Ks with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. This lineup as it stands right now is really bad. The young guys will get better but they will get eaten alive by ACC pitching. They draw a lot of walks but also strike out a bunch and seem to hit into a whole lot of double plays. Going to be a long year fellas.

Mueller is a great player. But when he is hitting in the 3-hole going into conference play means your team is struggling. 2 men on base, 9th inning, lays down a bunt to hand the bat to Aiello (not a bad strategy). HOWEVER, your 3 hole hitter shouldn’t have to do that. Should be confident that he can hit a walk off tank daddy.

5-5 in the 4th. 3 unearned allowed by the Deacs. This team could be historically bad record wise due to the very difficult conference schedule. I heard that a few of the suspended players were expelled from school and now appealing. Of course I’ll continue to watch but this team has to mature and improve dramatically very soon.

What is going on with Aiello? I know he can’t hide with Fairchild and Sheets gone this year but he can’t be coming up with bases loaded no outs and get three belt high mid 80s fastballs thrown by him.

Struggling with something called UMASS Lowell is not good.

At this point, the suspended players have missed 12 games. That's about 1/4 of the season. If those players have not been practicing, it will take a while before they become useful. If the suspension is not lifted soon, it will become a per se season long suspension. Among other harm, the suspension will impact the professional prospects of the suspended players.

Also, this is a brutal week for WF: Tuesday @ #24 10-3 Coastal Carolina; Friday--Sunday home versus #3 11-0 FSU. A chance for some high quality wins, but also the potential for getting buried.

FWIW, when WF went down to Coastal last year and buried them 13-8, that was an early clue that the 2017 Deacs could be a special team. Will be interesting to see what the 2018 match up reveals.
