Not sure how you make that leap. Every skater has known the system for years now and it is the fault of weak skaters like Rippon doing easy programs for creating this “controversy “. He knows he will never beat the other skaters with easy stuff and still sticks to that.

No, actually they changed the scoring not too long ago to give more incentive to attempting the more difficult elements, which is fine. It seems to me maybe they went a little far in that though, because there still needs the element of completing the difficult elements, not just attempting them. I'm certainly no expert in figure skating or gymnastics, but when I watch gymnastics usually in the Olympics, they give them a higher starting point value for harder routines. However, they also seem to assign enough of a punitive deduction that for example if they fall on a vault it significantly lowers their score. Sure a skater like Rippon should go for more difficult elements, but just trying them shouldn't be enough to win.
 
the bird's eye view camera angle on snowboard halfpipe is super annoying. just keep the one low angle like x games
