2018 College Basketball Coaching Carousel

How about Wes Miller to UNC-Charlotte. Would be much better money than at UNC-G.

I’m told Kevin Stallings has informed them he will not accept the reduced buyout of about $7.5M that Pitt boosters had hoped he would. He wants $9.4M and it is headed for a showdown — or most likely Pitt paying the whole thing to part with him.

LOL if Stallings is out at Pitt we will officially have the worst coach in the ACC.

Can't find Stallings' salary at Pitt, but let's say it's the same as it was at Vandy - $2.1M.

So, 2.1M + 2.1M + 9.4M = 13.6M

So, $13.6M for 2 years of work and a cool 4-32 record in the ACC. Not too shabby.

Dumb move...

Nope. Much better conference and he would make more money. An ideal proving ground for him -- no major program besides us is going to hire him straight from the SoCon, and we probably won't either.

Charlotte also has tradition and should recruit well in that conference

Marginally better...not worth the risk...keep winning and make a real jump...

Unless Miller has a better offer, success at Charlotte, Conference USA, is much more likely to result in a Power Conference job than a success in the Southern Conference. Can't remember any recent examples of a coach jumping from the SoCon to an ACC, SEC, Big 12 or Big 10 job. Conference USA has:

- Mike White Florida
- Jerod Haase Stanford
- Tony Barbee Auburn
- Josh Pastner GT
- Danny Manning WF
- Donnie Tyndall TN
- Billy Donovan Florida

Admittedly CUSA isnt as strong as it was when a lot of those dudes jumped, but def still a very significant step up from the SoCon

Unless miracles happen, UNC-C is a couple of years from being competitive in C-USA. That's a good way to be forgotten.

Pitt is supposedly going to offer Stallings a buyout today, likely a take it or get fired anyway offer. By Friday morning Wake will have the worst coach in the ACC.

Why would he take less than the amount in his contract?

In news of the day that should surprise no one: Pitt has fired Kevin Stallings.

Good on Pitt for trying to fix their problem after two years. I would think four years would be enough for Wellman to attempt to fix our problem.
