2018 College Basketball Coaching Carousel

Maryland got fun once they left.

Damon Evans also has some "interesting" baggage in his past. He was stopped for DUI with a female in his car who was not his wife and holding a pair of red panties.

Ah, yes.
Damon Evans of UGA fame.
He really blew a lifetime opportunity there, but obviously has worked his way back......although it's MD.

Siena fired Jimmy Patsos (technically he resigned under pressure) after reports surfaced that Patsos was abusive toward a team manager.

The bigger news are the rumors that Rick Pitino is sniffing around the Siena job opening. Apparently, Ricky is desperate to get back into the game.

Pitino has been quite vocal about how he was "done wrong" by Louisville. Sounds like he is willing to take just about any head coaching job just to spite them. He is still due a lot of money from them, depending on the outcome of litigation.

There's also the matter of whether the NCAA will give him a "show cause" if he looks for another job.

NCAA didn't give him a "show cause" over the earlier messes at Louisville. They haven't completed their investigations into matters stemming from the FBI work. Who knows how long that will take. If they take as long as they did with UNC, Pitino could get in multiple years before that hits.

Siena also has its own sex scandal history. I remember a video was released many years ago with a Siena college girl sucking down some 1eyed sausages saying "Where the party at yo?" ... classic. Apparently Rick the ruler has seen this and his interest in the job was sparked.

Sienna still looking for a coach.

Their freshman forward who made all MAAC rookie team is seeking to transfer. Prince Oduro, a 6-foot-8, 253-pound native of Toronto, averaged 9.1 points and a team-high 5.1 rebounds

I can't see any college hiring Pitino until the NCAA investigation is done. Too much risk.
He seems pretty radio active at this point.

Agree for any program with something to lose, but for a program like Siena, what is the downside? Siena went 8-24 in a bad conference last year. If they hire Pitino, in the unlikely event the NCAA penalizes Siena with a post-season ban, they aren't going to the NCAA tourney next year anyway (or for a couple of years). Further, almost anything can be dealt with in contract negotiations; so, if Pitino (who remains adamant that he did nothing wrong) is willing to include contract provisions that protect Siena in the event that the NCAA decides to impose follow-on penalties on Siena for Pitino's Louisville transgressions (which would be unusual), Siena could receive financial give backs for any damage Siena suffers.

College basketball has had so many coaches that have survived and moved on from sanctions and embarrassing behavior, an elite coach like Pitino is going to get a job sooner or later, if he wants to coach.

The downside is having your school associated with a scumbag.

L'ville is a top 10 program, and they kept Pitino around for years after everyone knew he was a scumbag. If Siena hires Pitino and he takes them to the NCAAs (likely), few would care about his sordid past. College sports are Machiavellian.

Siena already has problems. That is why the previous coach "resigned."

Here's a question -If Billy D. gets fired in OKC, will a college fire their coach to hire him?
