Trump White House's Mishandling of Classified Material

I didn't like Coats' politics as a senator, but he has done well as DNI. Ratcliffe is total lunatic. His performance was an ignorant disgrace. That's probably the reason he's getting the gig.

In a normal time, there would be enough Republicans with a conscience to block him. Sadly, that is very unlikely these days.

That's part of it. The other part is that fewer and fewer high-quality, first or even second-rate, competent people are willing to work with Trump. So, he's stuck hiring whomever will actually agree to take the job. In an increasing number of cases that's the ultrapartisan, extreme right loonies like Gorka, DeVos, Carson, and now Ratliffe. If it wasn't for protests and even a few Republicans privately complaining about some candidates, who then withdrew their names, the total of such people in Trump's Administration would be even higher.

Umm, WFU's own is the chair of the Senate Intel committee. Maybe he can get a few (thousand) calls from his constituents this week expressing opposition to a nominee who clearly isn't qualified.

Just because lying on your resume can get you fired from being a college football coach doesn't mean a Trump sycophant shouldn't get a pass to handle the nation's most sensitive materials. '

Why shouldn't we trust him?

Nominating Ratcliffe is actually illegal. According to the statute, the DNI must have "extensive experience" in intelligence.

"Experienced, apolitical, pragmatic" and enjoys support from both parties in Congress would be a dream resume for a major job in almost any other administration. In Trumpworld, it immediately raises suspicions from Trump and the loonies that do work for him. "They've got experience, they're practical, and they focus on the job and not pandering to our base. They're competent - and we can't have that at all. Fire their ass!"

This is yet another example in a litany of hundreds that the Republican President thinks he can do whatever he wants to do, and Dems should never let the GOP forget this example among all the others. Sorry not sorry whatamount.
