I'm not sure why I'm even responding to this but whatever.....
You have to remember, Danny Manning is still very revered by the national media and ESPN would essentially turn such a prank back onto the fans as us being absolute "assholes" and being unfair to Danny. It would not be thought "hilarious" by those outside of our little group because 99.9999% of the sports world gives less than two fucks about Wake Forest basketball.
And, 98% of national households, who actually care, remember Manning as a squeaky clean, Kansas kid (although he isn't) who led an underdog to the NCAA Championship.
This is precisely why great PR firms are highly sought after and make shit loads of money. It's called "thinking things through".
** We're in a big hole. A HUGE hole. Let's stop digging any further.
First of all, this was originally posted about the previous coach.
If punching a mascot gets covered, this would.
I understand Danny is beloved, but we are also the home of CP3 and Timmy. The story of "how far has Wake fallen" would be a natural. There's also the crowd looking at a train/car wreck aspect to this of what has happened to Danny.
Billboards in various cities from ours to trying to get a player to sign in a city are covered. Hell, ours was covered nationally.
There are stories about oddities at tiny schools, with no history. We are in a P6 conference, arguably the #1 bball conference.
The sight of a hundred or more toilets is so unusual and outrageous that people who don't care about any sports would get a chuckle and ask what was happening.
Top PR firms are always looking for something unique to promote. What they are also looking for is something unique, fun and free. They would kill to be able to get free press for their client or position. This is all of that.
