You have to remember, Danny Manning is still very revered by the national media and ESPN would essentially turn such a prank back onto the fans as us being absolute "assholes" and being unfair to Danny. It would not be thought "hilarious" by those outside of our little group because 99.9999% of the sports world gives less than two fucks about Wake Forest basketball.

And, 98% of national households, who actually care, remember Manning as a squeaky clean, Kansas kid (although he isn't) who led an underdog to the NCAA Championship.

This is precisely why great PR firms are highly sought after and make shit loads of money. It's called "thinking things through".

** We're in a big hole. A HUGE hole. Let's stop digging any further.
First of all, this was originally posted about the previous coach.

If punching a mascot gets covered, this would.

I understand Danny is beloved, but we are also the home of CP3 and Timmy. The story of "how far has Wake fallen" would be a natural. There's also the crowd looking at a train/car wreck aspect to this of what has happened to Danny.

Billboards in various cities from ours to trying to get a player to sign in a city are covered. Hell, ours was covered nationally.

There are stories about oddities at tiny schools, with no history. We are in a P6 conference, arguably the #1 bball conference.

The sight of a hundred or more toilets is so unusual and outrageous that people who don't care about any sports would get a chuckle and ask what was happening.

Top PR firms are always looking for something unique to promote. What they are also looking for is something unique, fun and free. They would kill to be able to get free press for their client or position. This is all of that.

so a PR firm is going to work with the toilet people to get them free press?

First of all, you don't need a PR firm for this.

Next, part of what PR firms try to do is get you free press. It makes them look better and your budget go farther.

But keep trying to come up with excuses from a point of not understanding what PR firms do.

For the negative people, think about this. What if it was done the night of a Raycom game or even better and ESPN/ESPNU covered game?

NAH, it wouldn't be covered. The crew and announcers would just blow it off.

It's a fine idea but it was a nightmare to even get a billboard or a fly-by. Getting 300 toilets at the Joel without 300 arrest would be a monumental task.

Would probably end up with one or two and a couple of drunk students taking a shit in them.

Give RJ a break. He's never even been to the Joel and therefore has no idea what the logistics are like there.

Getting fifty or so would work. The more the bigger splash, but fifty would take up a lot of space and create a story.

Buddy I do PR. Who is hiring a PR firm in your scenario?

No is hiring a PR firm. Someone else brought that up and I explained why it wasn't necessary.

The suggested toilets would indeed get national attention, but not the kind of attention we want. As others have noted, this stunt would be taken as an insult to the 200 war veterans honored with monument pedestals similarly displayed outside the Joel.

I like the idea of a fly-by. Does anyone know who we could contact for such a thing?

Pissing you off once a year is .... well.... just fun. Hopefully we improve on the hardwoods, RJ!
