Does the article, which we are all sure you read top to bottom, discuss any factors that would explain why people would take fewer chances now vs. then?

I graduated during a bad recession that included massive inflation. In fact, Wake's direct POTUS, Gerry Ford tried to Americans to wear buttons that said WIN (Whip Inflation Now). We also had a lot of people who had been in Viet Nam.

In the years from from 1974-86, the lowest unemployment rate was 5.6%. Only three times did it dip below 7%.

Every generation has its problems.
