OFFICIAL 2018 MLB PLAYOFFS Thread (Cubs free)

The A's have cut 4 games into the Mariners WC lead over the past week; they are now 6.5 games back. M's have won a ton of one run games, which usually catches up to a team over a full season. That said, the A's are probably playing above their ability.

Edwin.

Sugar.

Diaz.

Also the hitting coaches. That is unusual in mid season.

He should’ve been canned after last year. That team has gotten worse year in and year out since 2015. They have a pretty decent pitching staff with a lot of young arms , and the offense should be a lot better than it has performed.

I hope the Phils get and then re-sign Machado. With Machado, Kingery, Crawford and Franco, they can be set in the infield for most of the next decade. They can afford to trade some prospects. If they think Trout is a real possibility, they can also trade some OF prospects as Trout and Herrara would be set for 5+ years.

Thats 4 guys for 3 positions (unless you move Makiel to first, but that's both Santana and Hoskins' preferred position). Crawford has a ways to go before we start writing him him in for 10 years-hopefully he'll get there.

Santana is only guaranteed for two more years and may have trade value.

Having 4 guys for 3 slots is OK. Crawford does have a way to go. I think Kingery does as well. Machado will play 150 games. The others can split up the rest. If Hoskins gets to 1B, Franco could play some LF. It would be a nice problem to have.

The bottom line is the Phillies don't need a lot of prospect infielders and if they get Trout, not many OF either.

Hoskins has been in left field but it probably isn't the best spot for a converted catcher.

If they get Machado, trading Santana back to the AL after the season makes a lot of sense.

LOL. The Phillies aren't trading Santana - he's the marquee guy for their philosophy on OBP, etc. If they trade for and/or sign Machado, they're not keeping all of Crawford, Kingery, and Franco. One of them will be gone.

Feels like the Cubs' move into first might increase the Brewers' willingness to go balls out for Machado.

In other news, let us all celebrate the newest HR derby not being ruined by Chris Berman.

Newest report from Bowden says Manny will be traded before the end of the all star break. Last I saw was they were only looking for 1 top 100 recruit, and a fringe top 100 recruit. Still a lot for a rental, but guessing Phils, Dodgers and Brewcrew all need to make a move now. The Phils are also connected to Britton, so could be a package deal there.

Should be a fun trade deadline - Beane says the A's are buyers. Will be interesting to see if any of the big, controllable starters go - Fulmer, Archer, deGrom, Thor. Also looking to see what it takes to pry Brad Hand from the Pads. Do the Yanks really give up Andujar for pitching help?

deGroms agent just publicly shared a letter that asked for deGrom to either get a long term contract or be traded.

Phillies have been playing a lot of guys out of position this season, and it's showing in their defense. Can Machado still play shortstop?

How long has the HR Derby been timed? Seems like this benefits people who hit line drives HRs over towering ones. Hoskins advances to the second round, has the highest total so far.

Machado had the worst DRS of any SS by a TON. He is not a major league SS.

New format is a lot more fun but puts so much pressure on the pitcher. Also shouldn't have to wait til the ball lands.

Agreed on all points - last year was fun too with Judge/Stanton. Hope they can keep getting decent players - outside of Harper, not many household names in the group this year.
