The Sophists pretty much got it right that if you can't argue for both sides you should sit down and listen
 
maybe you can explain the conflict between the sunk cost fallacy with the concept of perseverance. i feel like the explanations i get of the fallacy lead to "well, it's only a fallacy if you're continuing X to avoid [emotional] pain" or
 
Isn't that more of a psych thing?

I could see it being a rhetorical fallacy if you tried to argue that "well you've already invested money in something so you should keep investing in it"
 
It seems like a the kind of psych thing that can be used to persuade on an inter and intra personal level
