Comey Interview on 20/20: "Left people in the room stunned"

Golden Delicious over Gala? Geez. Brute is accurate. At least it isn’t Red Delicious.

If it's really written like that, nobody will take it seriously. It reads as left wing porn.

20 minutes into the interview, I remain convinced Comey is a mediocre person. He just doesn't seem that bright. He remains convinced that suppressing the Russian investigation and breathless running to Congress about the Weiner emails was a down the middle move.

It saddens me that he rose to such heights in his career.

Geez, I swear I've heard all of this stuff before.

That interview was for people who had just heard of Comey for the first time last week. There wasn't an new information of substance.

its bureaucracy, mediocrity reigns supreme

I agree with that. In a hierarchy, someone can rise to the top by looking the part and doing what they’re told.

please note though, hierarchy and bureaucracy are not the same, my observation was for bureaucracies, not necessarily true for hierarchies

Of course they aren’t the same although there is plenty of overlap. And saying something “can” produce an outcome implies it is not necessarily true in all cases.

Comey sucks. Some of the lines in his book are juvenile. The interview was meh. He and Trump both suck. Comey is not some intelligent, ethical beacon of light. The press really wants him to be, but he's not going to fill that role.

What in the interview "left people in the room stunned?"

Yeah, nothing Comey has done post-firing has been particularly impressive. His only real positive compared to the President is that he is not a petty, monomaniacal asshole.

The thing is - Comey deserved to be fired. I fully believe Trump fired him to stop the flynn investigation and because he perceived that he could install somebody that he could control, or at least expect loyalty from (not necessarily understanding how the FBI and DOJ are supposed to work).

I think Comey is honest and believes he did the right thing - but this book won't help his credibility in my view. It's about making money, which is fine, but we shouldn't pretend it's about something else.

He’s definitely honest. But he’s also not that bright. He presents himself as a man who had tough decisions but they weren’t that tough. If he just released a brief statement about declining to bring charges against Hillary and waited to see if the Weiner emails were anything new, nobody would have questioned his decision making. He grossly overstepped to appeal to partisan hysteria about Hillary. Treat it like any other investigation and he’s no big deal.
