2018 NBA Draft Thread - No Deacons Drafted

I think the trade was good. I would have taken Bamba. Bamba + Collins and two 19 first rounders. They would suck again this year and they can use the two picks next year to jump start the rebuild. I think they missed out on a unicorn.

Problem is the league has gone away from centers

That’s because of the talents.

Problem is the league has gone away from centers

No, the Warriors have gone away from a center because they have had two and now three of the best shooters in NBA history so don't need to tie up cap space on one. Everyone else who does not happen to have two or three of the best shooters in NBA history still needs a center, whether they will admit it or not.

Any word on either Moore or Crawford making a summer league roster?

Have heard about it for other schools, but not Wake.

NBA teams need the best players they can get. Very few of those best players are centers. We will see if this class changes things.

6 playoff teams feature a center as arguably their best player (Celtics, Sixers, Jazz, Pelicans, Spurs, Timberwolves) and another three feature a center as a major contributor (Rockets, Thunder, Pacers). Of that group only Horford is over the age of 25. And that doesn’t include Jokic or Porzingis (or our boy John Collins). The center position is fine.

Aldridge is a PF and he’s well over 25. A few other of those are PF who play C because we are in a small ball era.

Horford the best Celtic? Come on, man.

Horford was absolutely the best player on the Celtics this past year. There is a reason that the university of Florida, Atlanta Hawks, and now the Celtics have all been surprisingly successful while he has been on their roster. He is a big time player, that contributes way more than the standard stats might indicate. He is almost always in the right place at the right time on both sides of the floor, and just doesn't make mistakes. He is an extremely underrated player.

Horford is a 5 time All-Star. Somebody rates him well.

And he's married to a former Miss Universe. Given that his dad played in the NBA and his wife is 6' tall, we may be looking at the NBA's version of the baseball's Boone family soon. :)

Yeah snuck LMA in there after I made the over 25 comment. If you’re saying that guys who would have been PFs 15 years ago are now centers, then sure. But all of those guys, including LMA, are listed as and play most of their minutes at C.

Horford is 6'10", Embiid is 7', Gobert is 7'1", AD is 6'11", LMA is 6'11", KAT is 7', Cappella is 6'10", Adams is 7', and Miles Turner is 6'11". Those are centers in any era, and they are not "small ball". They all move around and face up more than previous generations because of the offensive styles, but they are still centers. They are the same size as the glory days centers - Ewing 7', Russell 6'10", Hakeem 7', Mourning 6'10", Shaq 7'1". In contrast, the PFs of the glory years were not this size - Oakley 6'8", Barkley 6'6", Malone 6'9", Rodman 6'7".

This is such a brutal ongoing misconception. Just because the Warrior's death lineup, which they don't even use that often, slides 6'7" PF Draymond over to center so he can be surrounded by 3 of the best shooters in NBA history, everyone things that centers are useless in today's NBA. They are sometimes useless on one historically unique team - that's it.

If Embiid is only 7', a lot of his teammates are way shorter than they are listed. If Chuck is 6'6, I'm at least 6'3.

A point lots of people miss is that when Draymond is playing center the Warriors have a 7' Durant, a 6'7 Thomspon, a 6'6 and long iggy and at times a 6'7 PG in Livingston. The concept that the Warriors are small is not accurate.

Anyway...

Are these guys going to make a summer league roster? Lots of names and signings coming out today

Haven't seen anything on either Moore or Crawford. Most of the news I found was old pre-draft stuff.

Pretty nuts that 236 underclassmen declared for the draft, 77 underclassmen stayed in. That's a LOT of guys who didn't end up getting drafted.

Nothing on Bryant or Doral getting any offers yet, but Codi Miller-McIntyre signed to play summer league with the Toronto Raptors.

Was Codi supposed to play on the TBT team? Will this interfere with that? Presumably NBA summer league is a priority.
