There is having a search firm and then there is acknowledging exactly when the search process started. One of the requirements for being a good search firm is giving the guy who hired you plausible deniability that contact with a specific person happened and also dates when stuff happened.
 
Plus Wellman didn’t use one - twice - and see how that turned out. Did Currie use one during the UT debacle? My recollection is no.
