The President’s success has the Think Tankers and K-Street specialists in knots.

Negotiations are supposed to be much more complex and “nuanced”(stupid fucking term that covers the Dim party). Trump’s straightforward and pragmatic approach has the DC brigade scrambling for relevance and more importantly, a plausible excuse with which to deny the President the credit he so richly deserves.

Great work by Trump and Pompeo and Bless the 3 men whose lives were saved!

I've got to admit, this NK situation is looking like a big success so far. But I have a serious question: What makes this any different than the last 3 times NK has reached out to the international community and SK specifically only to pull back after the sanctions are lessened?

Good question. Because China will guarantee it. No one in the region, including China or Russia, has an interest in a nuclear armed North Korea. No one. Kim is getting what he needs, guarantees that he wont be overrun like East Germany. Now, if he is smart, he will set about trying to do in NK what the South Korean military dictatorship and China started to do 40 years ago, turn China and SK into economic success stories. China has always been the key. Give Trump credit for taking advantage of the situtation.

If he pulls it off, it would be great. But why would NK give away the nukes they have and not get a ton back?

Would we give up all sanctions without full access inspections?

Would they give up their horrific treatment of their people?

Would they cut back their military?

Would they demand that we remove our military from the south? If so, what would SK and Japan demand for protection?

There are many other things to think about.

Another aspect of this is even if NK gives up their nukes, they have the experience and technology to get them back again almost instantly.

So, it's china that deserves the credit, not the US? Also, NK is already nuclear armed, their rockets are rickety and their bombs are on par with ~1945 US weapons, but they are nuclear armed already.

China was always essential for any settlement of issues with NK. No one could get anything done without them.

I know you want to deprive Trump of as much credit as possible, whenever possible, but, believe me, no one cares about your efforts in this regard.

Solid chance Trump is getting played

Nice, first thing I said on this thread was giving Trump credit, then you went and gave China all the credit, and then you accuse me of trying to deprive Trump of the credit. You are a loony bird.

I hope things do work out with N.Korea and it appears more likely now than in the past, but when you have two giant narcissists who aren't exactly known for telling truths on opposite sides of the table, things can go sideways in a hurry. I hope not, but I'm skeptical .

If it comes out that the US destroyed the DPRK nuclear test facility, I will give Trump a ton of props.

Seems doubtful but possible I guess. Recall reading something about China saying seismic activity may have done it and that tests there have triggered earthquakes in the past. Maybe NK did it themselves, maybe it was poorly constructed, but doubt we’ll find out.

Didn’t NK have a rocket explode on its launchpad a while ago? Recall speculation that we did it, it was negligence or NK intentionally did it, but we never found out. If we did, I don’t remember the it.

Not that it matters, but I wonder when the person apprehended in 2015 found out Trump became president?

Solid chance that Donald - as NK and SK have both said - played basically no role in this.

I'm always down to give credit where credit is due but can anyone point to anything Donald has done that led to this?

Been the nutcase that got SK and DKRP to say "This guy's nuts. Maybe we should work this out."

Regarding the first question, why would they give all of them up under any circumstances? I guess adequate assurances of protection by China could do it, but it doesn’t end well for leaders like him when they give up their most dangerous weapons. Just look what happened to Gaddafi after he gave up his WMD during the W administration, for example.

Questions 2-4 remain to be seen if a deal is made.

Regarding question 5, unless something changed, I believe NK said a while ago that our military can stay and that won’t even be part of the talks.

Regarding your last point, I’m guessing that issue will discussed at length.

One thing is certain - if this doesnt work out it will be because of Hillary's emails

Chris Christie said on ABC's This Week last Sunday that, if the negotiations with North Korea fail, Trump will simply blame it on the North Koreans, and will thus escape any blame.

Perhaps they were persuaded by his widespread use of social media pejoratives?

And Trump trusts them more than Iran?
