2018 NCAA National Tennis Championship Thread

That should do it!!! Gojo wins, 7-5, 6-3

DEACS WIN!!!!!

4-1.

Much closer than the score suggests. But Zlobinsky forced a third set (4-6, 6-4) and Skander was still in it (3-6, 5-5).

Looks like Illinois took the doubles point in a ridiculous battle:

1: 7(9)-6(7)
2: 3-6
3: 6-4

Hopefully the nerves are off. As said earlier, this should've been an easier battle outdoors.

As the defending indoor champs from the fall do we really think indoor vs outdoor matters for this team?

Probably didn't matter much to Wake. Particularly since it was their own indoor facility. Columbia supposedly was a much better indoor team than outdoor team, so they may have been a tougher opponent indoors than expected of the #16 seed.

After losing doubles point TCU lost all 1st sets in singles. Going to be uphill battle for horned frogs. Good news is we took the Illini 4-0 earlier in year, so that bodes well.

Illinois it is in the quarters. Guessing Zlobinsky @ 5 or 6 since he won @5 earlier in year vs Illini, so only question is who fills the other spot of 5/6. Christian lost today and surely to play doubles Sun so back to back doubles and singles probably not best.

We beat Illinois 4-0 earlier this year. I think the score would have been 5-2 if all matches were completed. But, and this is a big but, Illinois didn’t have their #1 player, Vucik (who is really good), in that match. To be fair, Wake didn’t have Botzer in that match.

Most northern teams are a little better indoors, and that’s probably the case with Illinois. But we are also pretty good indoors.

The Wake match tomorrow is now supposed to start at 2 PM, rather than 4 PM, in an attempt to avoid afternoon rain. This could still change - I would follow NCAA Tennis on Twitter for updates.

was anything noticeably wrong w dirk last match? seemed like he had being doing well in previous matches

His serve wasn’t very effective. It seems like it should be in the fast indoor courts, but he hits a serve with a lot of topsin and kick (especially his second serve) and it seems to work better outdoors. He was getting very few free shots on his serve. And, his opponent won all the critical points.

I bet Bresky has a different lineup in mind if we go outdoors vs indoors.
