Why I am not at all shocked that conservatives are blaming the inhumane treatment of immigrants (including children) on the Democrats? Projection, projection, projection. "If only you evil LibDems weren't luring these poor people to the border with your stupid open borders policy, then Trump wouldn't have to lock them into cages and deny them basic necessities and separate kids from parents and do all of the other horrible things that we actually support anyway cause they're mostly darker-skinned and speak Spanish and they're foreign and it warms our cold, cold hearts to see these people hurting so! Shame on you LibDems for forcing us to do what we wanted to do anyway!"
 
The M bros and their utopian world I think believe in open borders. The problem with borders is the nationalism and that rubes get some notion that they are better than others simply for the fact they happen to be born here. Immigrants that struggle and overcome and do everything they can to become Americans are 1000 times better Americans than the racist misogynistic opioid addicted pieces of shit that are known as trump’s base. Like if you were born in America and your life happens to turn out to be a complete failure and you then look at an immigrant from “a shit hole country” that is doing better than you, that’s not their fault that’s on you. Even with all the advantages in the world you somehow ended up a complete and utter deplorable shit head, good job good effort.

Great post. To listen to Trump's followers, from Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham right down to the average Trump rube posting on social media, we can't allow more immigrants (especially from nonwhite countries) into America, because they're a "drain" on our society and resources. Bullshit. Most of these immigrants have a work ethic that puts native-born rubes to shame, and in practice they're much closer to the Horatio Alger, pull yourself up by the bootstraps, strive and succeed mentality that conservatives claim to believe in, than are much of Trump's base. Beyond the racism, that's probably another reason they hate immigrants so much. There's few things more devastating than watching a foreigner come here and do better than you, when you've had all the advantages to begin with.

Of course they realize that. Somehow immigrants are both a lazy drain on our society and they’ll take our jobs.

WHEN NEWS BROKE that thousands of current and former Border Patrol agents were members of a secret Facebook group filled with racist, vulgar, and sexist content, Carla Provost, chief of the agency, was quick to respond. “These posts are completely inappropriate and contrary to the honor and integrity I see — and expect — from our agents day in and day out,” Provost said in a statement. “Any employees found to have violated our standards of conduct will be held accountable.”

For Provost, a veteran of the Border Patrol who was named head of the agency in August 2018, the group’s existence and content should have come as no surprise. Three months after her appointment to chief, Provost herself had posted in the group, then known as “I’m 10-15,” now archived as “America First X 2.” Provost’s comment was innocuous — a friendly clapback against a group member who questioned her rise to the top of the Border Patrol — but her participation in the group, which she has since left, raises serious questions.

According to Jerry Falwell, Jr., Franklin Graham, and countless conservatives on social media, the teachings of the Bible and Jesus don't apply to modern government policy (except when they say it does, of course.) Apparently, the teachings of Jesus only apply in your private life, unless, like Jerry, Jr. you're a self-described businessman and not a minister, in which case they don't apply even in your private life either. But, they're all proud traditional family values Christian conservatives!
