Putin-Trump Treason Summit

Putin-Trump Summit

It’s not just Trump. The Republican Party is being played.

This one made me laugh.

“Before the call, aides had urged him not to invite the Brazilian leader to the White House. Trump did it anyway. White House aides spent the next several weeks dodging calls from the Brazilian ambassador trying to set up the meeting.”

Amateur hour. White House aides saying “Tell him we aren’t here” to a White House operator trying to patch through a call from an ambassador makes me laugh.

Could go here or on the Nk thread.

George Will: Does Trump's summit with Kim foretell a catastrophic meeting with Putin?

...The most dangerous moment of the Trump presidency will arrive when he who is constantly gnawed by insecurities and the fear of not seeming what he is not (“strong”), realizes how weak and childish he seems to all who cast a cool eye on Singapore’s aftermath. The danger is of him lashing out in wounded vanity. Meanwhile, this innocent abroad is strutting toward a meeting with the cold-eyed Russian who is continuing to dismantle Europe’s geographically largest nation, Ukraine. He is likely looking ahead to ratcheting up pressure on one of three small nations, Lithuania, Latvia or Estonia, each a member of the NATO alliance that, for the first time in its 69 years, is dealing with a U.S. president who evinces no admiration for what it has accomplished, or any understanding of its revived importance as the hard man in Moscow, who can sniff softness, relishes what Singapore revealed.

Eh, Republicans from the 30s on loved themselves some right wing strongmen.

If you look at the Soviet Union / Russia as regime change where a communist government was replaced with a right wing dictatorship, the Republican shift towards it makes a lot more sense.

Maybe, but I don't think the foreign policy goals of the Russians has changed much since the Soviets fell. That's what makes it so ironic - the things paranoid right-wingers claimed the Soviets were doing to undermine the US are still happening under a Putin-led Russia, but it's the conservatives who are going along with it, instead of the Democrats, as they used to claim. Basically, they've become the gullible dupes to the Russians that they always said liberal Democrats were.

Before the fall of the USSR, there were no Russian oligarchs with giant piles of money that can be used to purchase influence in the West. Now there are. What does a GOP congressman like better than a filthy rich white man who has no moral compass about where he spends his money?

Russia is an agressive authoritarian mafia state. Why does it matter if that makes it a greater or lesser threat than the Soviet Union? It took 70 years to defeat communism. Beating Putin mostly just requires not throwing up our hands and unilaterally surrendering which is basically the GOP and Trump’s current platform.

not yet, but if we keep electing dems we are gonna lose not just to Russia but China too

So much winning on the world stage. So much repsect on the world stage. Much more than that clown Obama. Nit even close. Just look at North Korea. Kim signed the papers to denuclearize. Obama couldn't even get a meeting with him. Now he and Trump are bff exchanging mix tapes likes schoolgirls.

It's the Republicans who handing the world to Russia and China.
