China to Cancel More U.S. Soy Shipments as More Tariffs Loom

Chinese companies are expected to cancel most of the remaining soybeans they have committed to buy from the U.S. in the year ending Aug. 31 once the extra tariff on U.S. imports takes effect from Friday.

China is the world’s top soybean buyer and has yet to take delivery of about 1.14 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans booked for the current marketing year, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data. The USDA reported last week that China had resold some 123,000 tons of committed deliveries to Bangladesh and Iran.

Trump's WTO threat risks recession, market implosion

Look for global stock markets to crater and economies to dive into recession if President Trump proceeds with his desire to withdraw from another international accord — this time the World Trade Organization, economic experts tell me.

The big picture: Thus far, Trump has mostly damaged U.S. prestige with his anti-globalization actions, including withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Paris climate agreement, as well as threatening to pull out of NAFTA. He's also caused global stock markets to gyrate by imposing tariffs on Canada, Europe, and China; and oil prices to rise by pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal. But "the financial shock would be very, very large" should he withdraw from the WTO, said Gary Hufbauer of the Peterson Institute for International Economics.

Canadians boycott U.S. products citing Trump’s attacks on Trudeau

With President Trump initiating a trade war with Canada and launching verbal attacks on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canadian citizens are boycotting U.S. products and trips to the States, reports CTV News.

What they're doing: Canadians have taken to social media with the hashtags #BuyCanadian, #BoycottUSProducts, and #BoycottUSA and are offering tips on how to do their part to defend their country against the Trump administration's actions. The United States exported $207 billion worth of goods to Canada in 2016, per an MIT visualization.

While one Ottawa man proudly tweeted a photo (below) promoting his “Trump-free” grocery cart, others are also "refusing to buy Kentucky bourbon, California wine and Florida oranges, and ignoring major U.S. brands such as Starbucks, Walmart, and McDonald's," per CTV.

Trump can just use some of the profits from closing the southern border to give farmers some more subsidies.

Most people don't realize it was US farm subsidies (especially corn) led directly to the mass migration of Mexican farm workers from the early 90s on. It was cheaper to buy US corn in Mexico that it was to grow it.

Farm subsidies are one of top couple of reasons why so many people left Mexico.

Didn't those farmers get a massive bailout package? Where did that money go?

It's not just the midwest. Soybean farmers across the country are filing for bankruptcy.

And yet, it's hard not to believe that in November 2020, they'll kiss their kids in the homeless shelter and thumb a ride to the nearest polling place to vote for Trump yet again. #MAGA

decisions have consequences. they should have checked Trumps abysmal record, for just about everything, before voting for him.

But he says he’s the best and the only one who could fix things.

reading is important, but again this is why the Republicans are fighting with education and truth.

But, you see, it makes so much more sense to go it alone rather than join with any others in cooperation.
