Central & South America: Trump Wanted to Conduct a Missile Strike on Mexico

You know how sources and their relative veracity work right?

The only 'new information' in the 2019 article is the UCLA grad student bro who listened to a recording sound and said 'crickets' and then professor from Edinbraugh and one from Havana who disagree with the initial study findings.

And a Harvard guy who says that no one has actually seen the raw data, probably because it is classified. The only doctor who examined the people affected maintains that they were damaged. And none of that explains the same phenomena and injuries against the same tiny subset of people, the American Foreign Service, in China half a world away.

Now Trump is siding with the socialists.

How long until all the conservatives on here (and elsewhere) are claiming the Venezuela model is worth protecting since the people "chose" it?

And why would Donald oppose Maduro anyways - wannabe authoritarians respecting authoritarian game.

I don’t think America is any better or any worse than plenty of other countries - Canada, plenty of European countries.

While this is true, we're the only superpower that's ever existed in this category - and the others are able to be "no better or worse" than us on these democracy/humanitarian metrics in no small part because of what we've done over the past 75 years: help defeat Nazism, rebuild Europe with the Marshall Plan, etc., and counter the USSR/Putin (and increasingly China) in Europe. The whole NATO world order, where democracy and human rights are being worked on all the time despite obvious failings, has always depended on us.

I say this because MHBD's complaints, while not invalid, sound like a call to tear it all down rather than keep working on it (or back off from it, a la Trump/Bannon). I think TAB's point is, if you tear it all down, you don't get utopian Denmark, you get Russia/China.

Though maybe when India is a superpower in the coming decades, they'll take up the mantle of democracy. Hopefully we'll still be with them.

No one knows how to read here so I don't know why I bother, but the thing that America does that pisses Putin off the most is adding baltic or former soviet block states to Nato and then putting missile defense there, right on his back porch. US airpower and our army are vastly superior to his, but their ICBM arsenal makes it a level playing field, which is why he hates missile defense that weakens that arsenal.

This is the best opportunity he has had in decades to get a foothold in a country in the west and reciprocate.

Again, I have no confidence in Trump's ability to do the right thing here, or anything. But we at a minimum need to put forces in the area to block non civilian flights and ships from Russia to VZ.
