Central & South America: Trump Wanted to Conduct a Missile Strike on Mexico

Not a single person has said ANYTHING like you keep lying about. No one has said we should be involved militarily.

No matter how many times you want to tell that lie, it won't make it true.

Y'all are welcome to bring some evidence.

International observers said "the elections were very transparent and complied with international parameters and national legislation. The result that emanated from the CNE is a perfect reflection of the will of Venezuelans who went to the polls."

Again, I would support another vote in Venezuela. I don't support US intervention. Y'all are showing the true colors of both imperialist parties.

Once again - who were the international observers and where did you get the quote from?

The international response has made its presence felt. Plenty of governments, allies and friends of Venezuela have recognised the results of the elections.

There was an international contingent of about 300 political leaders, journalists, academics, analysts, activists and representatives from different institutions and organisations, along with 2000 national and international observers, who were present in the country to express their support for the electoral process.

Organisations such as the Non-Aligned Movement, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas (ALBA), the African Union, and countries such as Palestine, Russia, China, India, Bolivia, Nicaragua, El Salvador, etc. have recognised the vote.Others, however, such as the United States, the European Union, and the Lima Group [which included 13 right-wing Latin American countries and Canada] have refused to accept it and threaten more sanctions.

Those look like websites moonz would post.

Moonz would post something from FAIR? Cmon man.

Also, Counterpunch is definitely partisan, but it’s long been a reliable outlet for left of liberal and socialist editorializing on the Internet.

I haven’t heard of the third outlet.

I haven't read through all of them, but the NY Times doesn't provide any evidence other than low turnout. If low turnout is a standard for undemocratic/rigged elections, then I have some bad news for you.

The second, Vox, lies and says Maduro "banned" opposition, rather than opposition calling for their own boycott.

I don't trust the Trump administration to do anything. So I oppose anything they plan to do. I trust them as much as I would trust Maduro.

If Bolton is making the decision, I oppose it.

Christ are people on here really defending Maduro?

Venezuela’s citizens are eating dog and cat carcasses while Maduro jails opposition leaders, kills protesters, restricts the press and consolidates power across the country. Venezuelans lost an average of 19 pounds in the past two years.

Wow. I’ve seen a lot on this board but this one shocks me.

ETA: I have a handful of friends from Venezuela and their social media posts are heartbreaking. Families torn apart, some have had to flee the country permanently, and there is a constant fear for friends and family at home.

Left-won’t authoritarianism and right-wing authoritarianism are two sides of the same coin.

It's not about defending Maduro. It's about respecting the sovereignty of Venezuela. And the economic conditions are related to US policy toward VZ. If you really cared about the health of Venezuelas, you would call for an end to US sanctions.

Fine fuck it...end sanctions then.

You still have a corrupt autocrat leading a petrostate with no fucking plan to wean the economy off of oil. And you still have a corrupt autocrat with the capacity to murder and jail dissidents and a clear desire to covet power for himself and his party.

Fuck that noise.

If Maduro cared at all about his people, he'd let the food and medicine in to support them and feed them.

If Maduro about Venezuelans, he wouldn't running them down with military vehicles and shooting at them.

NED, why do you want the Trump administration to intervene? What would be gained? He doesn’t care about people, so I doubt that the outcome of intervention would benefit any families...

I am amazed by the tolerance for overt and covert authoritarianism in this country (especially the Trumpist right).

Where did I say I want the Trump administration to intervene?

I am very much in Shoo’s camp...I don’t want the Trump administration doing a thing because they will almost definitely fuck it up.

My beef is with the defense of Maduro and trying to rationalize and explain away some of the shenanigans going on down there.
