2019 offical College Football thread

College football draft by position. No players from Nebraska or Tennessee.

A frightening aspect of that NFL draft chart is that Clemson averaged 44 ppg (4th in the nation), and lost only one offensive player (Hunter Renfrow) to the NFL draft. Among their returning offensive weapons: Lawrence, Etienne, Dixon, Feaster, Ross, Higgins, Rodgers. Ridiculous.

Clemson also lost an All-American 4-year starter at left tackle who went undrafted. 6'5", 302 LB Mitch Hyatt.

Summer magazine time and two different ones and how they view the ACC:

Atlantic picks--Clemson, 8-0, Syracuse, 5-3, FSU, 4-4, NC State, 4-4, Wake, 3-5, Boston College, 3-5, Louisville, 2-6
Coastal picks--UVa, 6-2, VT, 5-3, Miami, 5-3, Pitt, 4-4, Duke, 3-5, UNC-Ch, 2-6, GT, 2-6

Phil Steele, a much more in-depth analysis but yet heavy on always picking FSU & ND high & Wake low

From the Athletic's top 0 NCAA assistant coaches list:

6. Josh Gattis, Michigan, offensive coordinator
Jim Harbaugh made a really, really bold move flipping the keys of his offense to the first-time play-caller, and he offered him the job without even interviewing him for it. The former Wake Forest DB inherits an excellent offensive line, a seasoned quarterback and a good receiving corps. Michigan’s schedule also sets up pretty well with Notre Dame, Michigan State and Ohio State all coming to Ann Arbor this fall. If Gattis is as good Joe Moorhead, John Shoop and the guys who have worked with him say, the Wolverines might have their breakthrough season of the Harbaugh era and the 35-year-old’s stock will continue to soar.

7. Mike Elko, Texas A&M, defensive coordinator
He took a defense that averaged 11th in the SEC against the run the four seasons before he arrived and transformed it into the No. 2 unit in the league. His work at Notre Dame and Wake forest was also exemplary. The Ivy Leaguer has drawn head coaching interest before and likely will again assuming the Aggies don’t get hit too hard against a brutal schedule. He’s one who could be in play at Memphis if Mike Norvell gets a bigger job or at UConn if it pushes out Randy Edsall.

16. Clark Lea, Notre Dame, defensive coordinator
A protege of Elko, Lea impressed last season running the defense in South Bend. The Vanderbilt product is very well thought of in coaching circles and is someone who might play well in several different regions of the country, having worked at UCLA, Wake Forest, Syracuse and South Bend.

Before people expect too much from the Gattis offense in year 1, they need to take a look at the RB depth chart in Ann Arbor this year. It’s a true freshman followed by a walkon.

I hadn't heard that he was offered the job without an interview

pretty nuts, especially given the high control vibes that Harbaugh gives off

Could someone maybe start a true 2019 CFB thread instead of labeling 162 pages of last year's stuff?

I like that several of the football mags have us going 7-5. Even though they have us only 3-5 in the conference I think we can do better. I think with a good season on the injury front we can get 8 wins and have a Florida bowl. Defense seems to be coming around nicely in the pre-season.
