Former WF Hoops Asst Coach Jamil Jones gets probation for 3rd degree assault (update)

Part of the goal at Wake Forest is to win consistently and recruit consistently.

Don’t we wish we had goals like that. Ron’s only goal has been to avoid things like this. He failed. Just like he did at Western Illinois State—or whateve shithole he was at when we were dumb enough to hire him.

Yep, it's not just about hiring, firing and facilities. It's managing the coaches you have so they understand what's expected and actively supporting their efforts to attain them.

No, just Making America Great Again after 8 losing years of Obama giving away the country and trying to have everybody like us instead of the U.S. being the most powerful country in the world which is what we are. Most of us appreciate our world dominance, capitalism and winning. I also appreciate a person who has gone bankrupt and come back from it to become a billionaire. You have to take chances in the business world to make it big and sometimes they don't always pay off. The true winners are the ones that get off the mat and do it again.

Too funny! A caricature of the trump voter.

Sucks that his punch killed a guy, but that's the chance you take when trying to be a vigilante

He's also the shady AAU guy on the staff, so that doesn't bode well for Danny and his crew who will mostly likely be employed for the next three years regardless of results.

*I'm completely out on college basketball, so I don't actually care. Its a terrible sport.

Gotta hand it to y'all -- page 20 of this thread might be the post-for-post dumbest page in the history of OGBoards.

I'm assumung that is the one where RJ, DR, and TheReff were all going at it? Even the circus doesn't have that many clowns.

Yeah. From what we know, it looks like he punched some drunk asshole tourist and the guy unfortunately died. Still not good though.

Worked with a guy on my farm who had a similar thing happen at a wedding defending the bride...got charged with manslaughter regardless...really fucked up his life

Baylor announces its Christian heritage on its home page. Baylor was founded by the Baptists. Baylor had an episode where a basketball player murdered a team mate. There are multiple allegations of sexual assault at Baylor.
Now Wake (another school founded by Baptists) has an assistant basketball coach charged with assault on a guy who since has died.

Two universities with Baptist roots who have a basketball program associated person involved in a violent death.

Does that help your understanding?

What does having Baptist roots have to do with it being a bad look of not? Is this a good look if it happens at a Catholic school?

In resolving conflicts, I would advise against punching people. Having said that, we don’t know enough of the facts yet to assess criminal liability.

True enough, but Dave Odom couldn't recruit a winning ACC team even following the tenures of Rodney, Chill and Tim. Part of the goal at Wake Forest is to win consistently and recruit consistently. Few have ever done that.

So averaging 20 wins over 12 seasons is not winning consistently? After the initial season at Wake never finishing below 5th in the ACC is not being a consistent winner and not recruiting well? 240-135 overall [.645] & 101-87 ACC record [.537] is not a winner along with his 2 ACC titles? Geez, GDO's final 2 seasons at Wake were 22-11 & 19-11 with a 7-9 & 8-8 ACC record. Don't we wish we could have seen that in the 8 years! A great record and also had great players on the team & a great class coming in that had us stocked for years, yet RW did not want Dave so he got rid of a proven winner and a class guy. RW did the same thing with George Greer who had 600 wins and 3 ACC titles. Typical AD who wanted to make changes and put his stamp on a program by hiring his own coaches. Was done at ECU in football when the dude fired Ruffin McNeill and we see how that has gone! Ron's hiring going back to Jim Caldwell has not gone exactly well!

Any guesses as to how we proceed from a staffing standpoint? Are we allowed to hire another coach while Jones is on leave or does the NCAA prevent that? Given that Jones is never coaching here again, will we just officially fire him once we have someone else lined up? Is there even a market for coaches at this point in the year, and if so, would someone want to join a program that doesn't appear to be heading in the right direction? Maybe Evan will continue his meteoric rise through the coaching profession?

We desperately need to replace Jones as a recruiter. It will make a good excuse for the inevitable 2019 class apologists though.

Les reported yesterday that DOBO Justin Bauman will fill Jones position on an interim basis.
