Former WF Hoops Asst Coach Jamil Jones gets probation for 3rd degree assault (update)

Looked like the guy was too drunk to defend himself and Jones hit him with the momentum of a charge.

Surprised Wake waited so long to fire him. It was a really fucked up way to handle a situation and not someone Wake should want to be associated with.

He is Danny's guy and Hatch and Wellman are in it with Danny. They will support whatever and justify it how they need to.

I missed it when Dino, his staff, or players ever murdered anyone, but somehow he had the "culture' problem.

These are just absolutely STUPID, ignorant takes. Wake waited until the evidence was presented. It's how basically any competent employer would handle the situation, particularly one where a contract is presumably involved that likely includes termination provisions detailing "for cause" termination. Jones was placed on leave shortly after the incident first came to light.

Courts and cases sometimes take a while. This case was no different.

Doesn't sound like the DA has any intention of upgrading the charges based on their statement.

The video doesn't really change anything on that front. The video makes it a slam dunk assault case. The issue with upgrading the charges is still whether Jones disregarded a substantial likelihood that his action would cause Szabo's death, and the video doesn't move the needle there.

Why would Wake have had access to that video?

Wake didn't fire him. Jamil Jones was placed on administrative leave to "give him time to handle the legal issues." He resigned shortly before his contract was due to expire.

Too bad for Jones the victim was white and he's black.

To put this in perspective, Zimmerman walked.
