Clive Walford, a TE from the U is on the NYJ roster, John is not.
 
The Jets roster still shows Lucky Whitehead, the guy who got cut to give John a spot. The roster just needs to be updated.

He has basically gotten paid NFL-level money to go to the doctor and physical therapy his entire career. Not a bad gig at all.
 
Excited to watch John play in a pre-season game. Maybe he makes the practice squad, maybe not. Who here wouldn't quit their desk job for a chance to suit up for an NFL game at least once?

Conor reports today that Rich Cimini from ESPN says the Jets expect JW to stay on Practice squad. That may be for PR purposes so using him as cannon fodder just for Th night doesn't have as bad an optic. Also good to see Jaboree get a show even if it is for the same reasons. Both guys making something of their UDFA Mini-camp time.

If you need cannon fodder, Wolford is a pretty good choice. He showed he can handle it.
 
Jets cut Wolford. I watched a replay of the game. He did not look bad but is certainly undersized. Maybe he makes the practice squad.

Cam Serigne got cut by the Panthers. Still a shot at the practice squad.
 
Teams can start signing players to practice squad starting today. Each team can put 10 on the PS. Min salary is $7600 per week/game. Practice squad player salaries count against salary cap. So a full practice squad for a season is almost $1.3 million for the team. A player would get a little over $129k for a full season on PS.

Interesting tidbit is that a player signed from PS to 53 man roster gets three game checks at NFL minimum salary, even if cut after one or two games. NFL rookie minimum is $480k this season. So a call up is worth almost $85,000. Net dollars would be less three PS checks or $22,800. So a call up to 53 man roster is worth about $62k.
 
Jaboree Williams was one of the Eagles cuts.
 
Jesse Bates will be the first Bengals rookie to start the opening game on defense since 2009 (Ray Maualuga).

Both Marquel Lee and Kyle Wilber made the Raiders 53 man roster.
