I post from my phone, so I take shortcuts sometimes, which can lead to ambiguity. I’m not saying all such statues purport to honor confederate dead. I’m saying that the ones that I referred to in my first post today — i.e., the ones that say they honor confederate dead — purport to honor confederate dead, not, as Ph suggested, confederate veterans.
The statues of Lee, Davis, etc., are, in my view, in a different category entirely, and many should probably be brought down
So, what’s the argument for maintaining the statues, even ones honoring the dead, on the grounds of a government building or public park v. A museum/battleground?
