Down Goes Silent Sam

Lectro is one of Pavlov's dogs.

Socialism? VENEZUELA!
Racism? WHY DON'T YOU TALK ABOUT BLACK ON WHITE RACISM TOO?
Russian collusion? BENGHAZI, BRUCE OHR, EMAILS

Why watch Fox News or read any conservative media when you can get your one stop "news" and commentary from the comments section in Lectro's posts?

The fact that used all caps for his replies is what makes this gold.

How come the right doesn't talk about Norway or Sweden or Finland when they scream about socialism?

those countries are only useful when you want to point out how great it is when everyone is white

I mean geopolitically look how similar America and Venezuela are. America is also heavily reliant on one resource for 95% of its export value and 12% of its GDP. It's inevitable that attempted socialism in America would look exactly like Venezuela.

Should the laws surrounding them stay as-is because that is how they have always been, or should the laws be updated given their nonsensical nature in light of current technology?

I don't know enough about the former to talk about it in depth. As far as the latter goes, I think "viability" itself as a standard inherently evolves.

My overarching point is merely "tradition" or "status quo" alone is not a satisfactory argument against new policies or decisions. This is predominantly why I don't identify as a political conservative.

Why not? You are willing to honor people who took up arms against the United States. Why not spies or killers?

I’m a conservative, so my default is to ask what are the reasons for altering the status quo. So far, the best argument I have heard for bringing down statues that honor confederate dead is that they offend people. I don’t dispute that, nor do I think that offense should be ignored, but, for reasons I have discussed, I don’t think that’s a very persuasive reason to dishonor the people who were honored by those statues by removing or moving them. There are better ways to disclaim any lingering racist intent — including putting up statues honoring slaves or modifying plaques to make clear what the current purpose of the statue is — than removing a statue that has stood, without incident, for decades, and, in some cases, for over 100 years.

Conservatives only like the status quo when it aligns with their beliefs. Conservatives love to change things to align them with their beliefs.

I don’t think there is enough space in the public square for statues of each individual confederate soldier. Plus, that would get really expensive.

"i don't have a good answer for that reasonable question"

Should we also honor Aldrich Ames? Nicholson? David Duke? Those who killed James Byrd?

RJ you know that is different than honoring kids who fought and died in a war they were drafted into.

Not condoning the statues but statements like this are ridiculous.
