The New Socialists

Yeah I’ve been on board with this for a long time. Maybe it’s a convoluted way of getting to a higher minimum wage but it would be a start.

Tuffalo it wouldn’t be seizing the means of production but do you see benefit in something like this?

I'm all about formal elegance now. Raising minimum wage seems preferable to setting up (even more of) a disincentive to hiring folks with kids.

boats are a human right, but that doesn't mean they should be free.

the hell is "dry land" in your convoluted analogy?

If capitalism is the water, socialism (or some other non-capitalist system) is the dry land. How is that not clear? Do people not understand simple analogies anymore?

this thread is a universal income butt

one of my favorite hobbies is to go in chats that I don't care about and tell people how much it sucks. No one does it, so its always really clever when I do.

god damn your sense of humor jar is fucking bone dry.

also, you're the one asking me to not goad you but you just can't fucking quit me, eh

there is some movement to get employers to pay for benefits like SNAP that employees rely on due to low wages

Bernie proposed legislation on companies with over 500 employees to carry the full freight of food stamps that their employees get

He did, the Stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies (BEZOS) Act. Unfortunately, while I believe the intentions are good (even though the name makes it sound kinda publicity stunty) it's another really poorly thought out piece of legislation that would likely harm low income workers and stigmatize benefits.

I really think the intentions of the DSA are good, and there is something to be said for winning the battle for the idea and worry about the implementation later. That has been effective politics lately. But I wish they spent a little more time thinking through the policy itself, especially when it would represent a fundamental shift in a complex system, instead of just sorta underpants gnoming it and then acting indignant when anyone dare to question them.

A progressive think tank put out a thoughtful criticism (linked below) that essentially said, "we agree with your goals, here is specifically why we think your bill with hurt, not help, you accomplish those goals, and here are some alternatives we think would work better." And the response from Bernie's policy director was essentially "Fuck you corporate shill!!!!"

Simple Simon Says..

If Socialism is the water then the island where he puts his gulag

See I thought giving everyone a boat meant distributing capital income to every member of society: socialism

No, because society is still dependent on the water with its rising tides still exists. The M boys have made it clear that keeping capitalism just isn't going to work for them.

tilt, good post. I fear any real momentum for socialist politics is going to be undermined by the socialists themselves.
