Trump isn’t a capitalist?

In a lot of regards Trump is a populist, not a capitalist. While he has certainly rolled back Obama era regulations, his fair trade ideas are by no definition capitalist. His trade policies are the same as the Bernie Sanders model which led him to beat Hillary in Michigan in the primaries, and Trump to beat Hillary in Michigan in the GE. It is also a devastatingly stupid idea in general and ironically have typically been supported historically by leftist politicians.

My counterpoint is that Trump is a capitalist. You thinking he is a populist, does not make him any less of a capitalist. I don’t know anyone that supports Trump’s trade policy. You saying that it’s the same as the Bernie Sanders model is clearly an oversimplification.

This may be the dumbest post in the history of the Tunnels. The dude's entire identity is built on his proficiency and savvy as a capitalist.

I am confident I know more and have listened to more first hand accounts of what it is like actually living through economic revolutions like the one your proposing, no question.

Which revolution are you referring to? I don't think folks are age know many people who are still alive who lived through 1917. Are you referring to the Cultural Revolution?

I mean, any decent American history book will provide first hand accounts of the evils of Capitalism. Capitalism is an economic ideology that justified some of the lowest points in human history. It's almost like ideology always has the potential to justify atrocity. Go team, or whatever.

"Trump managed to delude the white poor that their interest lies with the wealthy elite. This is killing US capitalism."

Trump didn't do that. That's been happening for at least a few hundred years.

What I find interesting about those explanations is that Democrats are seemingly more upset at the low income white voters who "believed" in Trump, than they're upset with Trump for lying to those voters. As if those voters were wrong for even hoping in a candidate that centered their grievances.. I mean shit, Hillary literally said in a public speech in Ohio: “We're going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.”

In the early 20th century, carmaker Henry Ford understood that the US economy worked best when you have a thriving middle-class. In fact, part of his rationale for raising wages was his implicit understanding that the company needed a middle class consumer base that would buy the Model T vehicles that Ford plants were producing.

The author is a geography professor and could use a little Henry Ford fact checking.

Trump is Trump. Of course, people should be more upset for people who believed in Trump than at Trump for being Trump. As Chris Rock would say, that tiger went tiger.

That's a shit elitist take. You're expecting an unrealistic level of discernment from desperate, angry, paranoid people. That seems to be a key trait of the tunnels though - condemn voters for their naivety rather than condemn politicians for their dishonesty. Anyway, ill stop before I derail another thread.

You say a lot of ill shit about poor white people. You really don’t expect much from them.

Here we go with that "bigotry of low expectations" bullshit. You don't hold people to expectations as a way of respecting them, you do it as an easy excuse to absolve yourself. I'm a fuckin realist, that's it - I don't condemn people for being ignorant, because often being educated is a luxury. I condemn people for being hateful, and I condemn people for abusing power.

It’s not about being ignorant or educated. It’s about thinking a New York millionaire gives a shit about your situation.

Yikes, well I have some bad news for you

Turns out that literally everyone who ever runs for President is rich beyond the average voters dreams, and people prefer the candidate that best centers their greivances.

And I blame people if the person who “centers their grievances” clearly doesn’t care about them and they’re from a party with no track record of doing anything about it.
