The New Socialists

This is fascinating. So what will DSA do now?

Mutual aid, tenant organizing, political education, union drives, strikes, protests...

Ya know stuff that actually benefits poor and working class people.

This. I'm not sure that anybody on here (short of doctors and public health professionals) is in a position to give DSA and DSA members shit right now. There's a good chance your local chapter is doing awesome work in your communities right now while you shit on them online.

I am white and male, and Heather Heyer's last FB post said "If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention." So...guilty as charged I guess.

That's a lie...but keep telling yourself that...and keep helping re-elect Trump.

I don't have to tell it to myself, when it's how you've described your political activism in the age of Trump.

Wrong again...You don't believe the less than 1% of what I've done in my life that I have shared due to your myopic, inane concepts of me. Why would I tell you much of anything if you won't believe it anyway?

Didn't we do this when the DSA said they wouldn't endorse Warren? They are under no obligation to endorse anyone, particularly someone who doesn't identify as a DSA member, and more so one that has actively fled the socialist label.

No endorsement doesn't mean people won't vote for him. I seem to remember the LA chapter of DSA putting out a voting guide that advised on who to vote for including candidates that weren't endorsed and some that they didn't even like, but were better than the alternative. (It doesn't mean they will vote for him either, but I'm not sure how many that won't would have their minds changed by a DSA endorsement.)

Are we sure Biden would want an endorsement? I thought one of the arguments for Biden was that Republicans screaming "SOCIALISM" wouldn't stick as easily to him.

This is a silly argument.

Cool. Thanks. For the record, and not sure if this was directed at me, but I’m not shitting on them online. I don’t think I’ve ever posted on this thread nor commented on DSA. I was genuinely curious what they are going to do now that Bernie has endorsed Biden. I appreciate their activism for the under resourced.

A dsa endorsement would not hurt Biden. Those that would find it a negative believe it anyway. If asked about it he says something like "of course they did. I'm not my pos opponent."

More curious how you came upon that tweet - presumably someone you follow quoted it critically.

Nope just showed up in my For You.

I read this like Zuckerberg telling Orrin Hatch “We sell ads.”

Much of social media is random shit showing up on your feed to piss you off or reaffirm your viewpoint.

I'm pretty confident the Twitter algorithms zero in on what you respond to, and if you're in the habit of calling bullshit on MAGA idiots you're going to get a steady diet of it in your feed. Annoying as hell.

Yeah, if you are a doom scroller then the algorithm is just going to feed you whatever it is that makes you angry. The key is to have a broad spectrum of interests that you follow so your social media experience doesn’t turn into a little bubble.
