The New Socialists

Perhaps you prefer the liberal rag, The Economist:

You will never have success for socialists in the US without joining with Dems. If you think otherwise, you are being totally delusional.

Seems like that article is making a lot of assumptions based on one race between a political newcomer and a popular Republican governor.

Manufacturing jobs are going to continue to fade. As are, hopefully, coal jobs.

So why do we punish politicians for being honest about this and talking about retraining etc.?

Manufacturing jobs aren’t fading. The manufacturers I know always complain they can’t workers with the right technical and employability skills. They’re always looking to hire. Retraining is still important.

Socialism repackaged with flowery pronouncements that always end in the destruction of social fabric.

les fluers du mal

We won’t get fooled again

Of course retraining is important. But H got pilloried for suggesting that’s what’s needed. Trump won that argument by prattling on about a coal comeback or some nonsense.

Manufacturing jobs in the US aren’t becoming extinct. But they’re a good bit down from their peak. As much to do with automation as free trade (which is good globally, I think).

Apparently there are complex reasons why we in the US don’t do well with government sponsored job training or retraining.

It’s not complex. Lazy white people who have been entitled to low skilled jobs for generations don’t want to be told they have to get a better education in order to keep up with the current economy.
