The New Socialists

It’s not complex. Lazy white people who have been entitled to low skilled jobs for generations don’t want to be told they have to get a better education in order to keep up with the current economy.

..and there is Ph’s thinly veiled racism

weren't you just admonishing mdmh for being too reliant on stereotypes? yeesh.

If I had said poor white people are lazy, that’s a stereotype. I said lazy white people. There are plenty of poor white people who are willing to adapt to changing economies. Lazy ones aren’t and they make the fuss about coal jobs.

...I think it’s complex.

Sure some folks are lazy. Or irresponsible. Or socially misfortunate.

It’s far easier as a politician to blame Mexicans or “illegals” or your political opponents (or your least favorite “ism”) for unfortunate changing economic or demographic realities.

We need effective leaders who can help us navigate these kinds of challenges in a more cohesive and salutary manner.

How to get some or more of that?

You are still using a stereotype right out of hillbilly elegy to make a classist argument blaming poor people for their economic plight rather than their bosses or neoliberal free market technocracy or capitalism.

You're an idiot sometimes. Ignoring the stupid racial element of your post, it's not as if all these displaced factory workers are just locked out of their job sites until they get their new job diplomas.

This is like an Cornhole Anus post, man. This is sort of what Ph has studied for a long time...

That actually makes it worse. Based on context clues, PH certainly prefers the white collar managerial class whites. Too bad for me.

Maybe someday i'll move on up from my racist white trailer park and buy a nice progressive liberal florida mcmansion where I can compete with the diverse (not white) retrained workforce as a...umm...project coordinator at a...kombucha factory? That would be excellent. If only.

yawn

Rhetoric like this is where you lose me, man, and something tells me that I'm probably to the left of you politically.

You and MHB are acting EXACTLY like the fascists you allegedly oppose.

My class consciousness is very personal to me, so Phs comments on the matter are very frustrating. I don't need you to share that frustration right here.

No, they're not. For one, they don't advocate for fascist political ideology. That's a pretty significant difference. This rhetoric is stupid, too.

I have gotten this sense. We're all molded by our relationship to class, occupation, etc. I think that you and Ph are probably a lot closer than you think that you are. Why focus on Ph when ChrisL and Shmoo have been and continue to say even less true generalizations about the "white working class" and the suburban white middle class?

Because I respect PHs political opinions far more than theirs.
