Official 2018-19 NBA Season Thread - NBA Finals Raptors Win #WeTheNorth

If you go to a casino, you can ask if they will give you a prop bet on that. I'd guess it would under even money. I wouldn't be all that shocked if the odds would be under 2/5. You'd have to bet $5 to win $2.

Kemba's not going to take a paycut to go to the Lakers to carry the team for 1/3 of the season while Lebron and Davis rest.

He said he'd take a paycut to stay on the Hornets and keep them terrible forever. Why not give yourself a shot at a ring?

My plan is to wait until the season win totals come out... Then I can go under on the Lakers.

Or maybe just wager on a couple of other teams to come out of the Western Conference playoffs.

Those Clippers odds (especially relative to the Toronto odds) show how likely it is that Kawhi is going to sign with the LA Clippers.

GSW at 12-1 is kind of interesting, actually.

But I'l likely wait for the NBA Draft and free agency to play out.

Pay cut from a Super Max deal with Charlotte does not necessarily equal taking a pay cut from a Max offer from other suitors.

I don't know the exact math, but I assume we're talking about 8 figures in difference.

ETA:
5 years for $221 mil
vs
4 years for $140 mil

Keeping in mind he'll be 33 when that 4 year deal is up and he'd be leaving a TON of money on the table.

Yeah, even Kemba he takes every bit of money the Lakers have available for one year he's killing his market value after that as he'll be another year older and still only looking at a 4-year deal.

It's definitely well into 8 figures for Kemba. First of all there's the stay at home vig that could be as much as $2M/year. More importantly, he's 29. If he stays in Charlotte, he can get the fifth year. Even at a hometown discount that could in the $30-40M range. As a 33/34 yo FA, it's unlikely he'd anywhere near that much.

I'd guesstimate that he'd be leaving $20M+ on the table. Also, if he chooses CA over NC, there's a big tax difference and a huge, huge cost of housing difference.

I agree, I think he'd be really foolish to take anything less than a great max deal elsewhere on a fringe-y competitor with room (or stay in CLT if he really wants to).

Juice, your Bulls gonna trade Markkanen to the Pels for #4?

Long read about the implications of the AD trade on the rest of the draft.

4. This is complete speculation on my part as opposed to something I’ve heard is a real possibility, but my favorite potential deal out on the market right now is something centered around Lauri Markkanen and the No. 4 pick. With Wendell Carter in Chicago as the team’s center of the future, Markkanen’s place is a bit more precarious despite his terrific production in his first two seasons. His best defensive position in the modern NBA is almost certainly at center next to a rim-protecting 4. That possibility doesn’t really exist in Chicago right now. By using Markkanen, the Bulls could get the high-upside, offensively-creative lead guard they need in Garland.

And in New Orleans, Markkanen is about as strong a fit as you could imagine next to Zion. Offensively, he’d shore up the team’s biggest weakness following this deal: perimeter shooting, giving Williamson more room to operate in the half-court. Markkanen is one of the few centers in the league that you can legit run off of off-ball screens in actions to get clean looks, and that sense of gravity would really help open things up. Then on the other end, competitive, high-end defensive guards in Jrue Holiday and Lonzo Ball would make Markkanen’s life a bit easier on the perimeter. Inside, it’s hard to imagine a scenario that helps him more than putting him next to Zion. In a world where fake trades will abound over the next few days, that’s a really fun one.

I don't see it.

Other than the fact that Zion is flat out more talented, I don't understand the argument that Markkanen-Zion is a better style fit than Markkanen-Carter.

Lakers would be better served to get a few $10mil guys. They probably won't. GM Lebron is not super smart. See the albatross contracts still hanging over Cleveland's head - Tristan Thompason, who might not even still be in the league if not for Lebron, as well as JR Smith.

If I were the GM of the Lakers, I would go after Brogdon first and follow that with under the radar guys who don't need shots: Corey Brewer, Trey Burke, Jonas Jerekbo. But Brogdon is low hanging fruit compared to Kemba. You frontload the contract so the first year is $13-15 million and then pay him $10 mil a year for 3 years after that. Milwaukee will struggle to match because of luxury tax and the need to resign Middleton.

Housing cost is not really an issue, considering he'll eventually be able to sell whatever he buys. Kobe's house is reportedly worth $8 million and LeBron's is $23 million. Both of those guys live like kings I'm sure. Houses on Kemba's street have sold for between $1.775 and $2.5 million. I think he'll be okay if he has to spend more on housing. He can also rent.

At the current odds, I'm intrigued by the Celts, Nuggets, Pacers (they were as good as anyone in the East before Oladipo, went down, and they have cap room), Hawks (realize that it's a year or two too early, but they are coming an 80-1 is a clear overlay).

I dig this Pacers squad and I'm a Nate McMillan fan, but they're more than one piece away from being a #contender

You're right. GM Lebron only built two championship teams.

Current odds for 2020 NBA Championship:

Lakers 3-1
Bucks 6-1
Clippers 7-1
Rockets 8-1
Raptors 10-1
Sixers 12-1
GSW 12-1
Celts 16-1
Nuggets 16-1
OKC 20-1
Nets 25-1
Blazers 30-1
Jazz 30-1
Mavs 40-1
Knicks 50-1
Pacers 60-1
Pels 60-1
Spurs 60-1
Hawks 80-1
Magic 80-1
Bulls 100-1
Griz 100-1
Kings 100-1
Suns 100-1
Cavs 200-1
Heat 200-1
Hornets 200-1
Pistons 200-1
Wizards 200-1

If there is a bet against the Lakers to win the title, I would jump at it.

I still like the Warriors at those odds. I like the Pacers and Hawks at the lower odds. I like the Blazers with a healthy Nurkic, but not at 30-1.

Happy 25th Anniversary of The Low-Speed OJ Chase to everyone !

haha. My arguments are as follows:

* Pat Riley
* Pat Riley
* Pat Riley
* Lebron unbelievable
* Tristan Thompson
* JR Smith
*Iman Shumpert

Look at the Cleveland payroll with GM Lebron and look at the Heat payroll during the Lebron years with GM Riley. Night and day.

Full discosure: I am not a Rich Paul fan. He's north of a clown but south of an agent. He'd make a great car dealership manager.

Dwade approached Riley. As has been his career story , Riley got lucky on this one. He was told what to do and he did it. He didn't lure anyone to South Beach or do anything to get Allen.

Lebron got the Love deal done.

Regarding Miami: No. Just no. Riley signed Bosh and drafted DWade, I believe. Basically, the Heat roster this century is Pat Riley's. Lebron chose to play in Miami that silly "The Decision" stuff, but that was just about the extent of his involvement in building the Heat - who had already won a championship in the Riley era before Lebron got there.

Yes, Lebron did orchestrate the Love trade - and then never did a really good job of involving him in the offense despite his exceptional playmaking abilities. It is like he never watched tape of Kevin Love and instead only saw his numbers. They also gave up a lot of salary flexibility by trading Andrew Wiggins, but anyway, I'll give you that one. but holy hell, Tristan Thompson, JR Smith and Iman Shumpert.

I mean, Tristan Thompson and JR Smith were vital pieces of a title team.
