Official 2018-19 NBA Season Thread - NBA Finals Raptors Win #WeTheNorth

Sorry if there's a better thread for this, but does anybody happen to have tickets for the All Star Saturday events that they are trying to get rid of? As a lifelong Mavs/Dirk fan it would be amazing to see him in his last hoo-rah in the 3 point contest and Luka/DSJ in the other events. Cheapest I've seen is 550 for uppers.

Seems like a dream scenario for the Celtics. They have too many guys and need to trade 3 for 1. Lakers might have had a shot if Ball or Ingram were better.

Because of Kyrie's contract, the Celtics can't make that trade until July.

The Lakers would probably include Hart and maybe even Zubac if they have to.

Just a matter of which young Lakers the PCans can get at this point.
Nah, Celtics have better #assets to get it done. Pels will be patient and wait til after this season is over due to the rule that doesn't let Kyrie and AD be on the same roster this season. And Tatum would definitely have to go.

Hayward is getting $32.7M next year. Horford has a player option for $30.1M that he's not opting out of. If they re-sign Kyrie it will be for north of $30M. I'm not sure if they could even trade Smart, Brown, Tatum and Rozier and be able to make the trade with AD at $35-40M.

Do you think the ownership of the Celtics would pay the insane amount of luxury tax such a trade would create for multiple years?

Yeah, the Hayward contract is just brutal. The Celtics ownership has stated they'd be willing to do whatever it takes, but who knows. AD is at $27M next year. It's not until 2021-2022 that Davis would be making that kind of money. They may have to trade additional young assets to a rebuilding team to get rid of the Hayward contract (like the Lakers did with D'Angelo Russell to get out of the Mozgov contract, just on a bigger scale), but that might mean gutting the roster. The Hayward contract is brutal.

Even at $27M, The Celtics' Big 4 would be over $120M on on their own and would get much worse the next year unless they dump Horford.

Having to wait prolly fucks the Celtics. Wiz with Beal or Portland with McCollum might be able to sneak in there this year, or someone I'm not thinking of like Denver.

Why would the Pelicans be in a rush? Especially when the team with the most to offer (and thus most to drive up the price) can't get it done til July? And why not wait to see who has the #1 pick and try to fish for Zion if possible?

And if the Pelicans trade Davis, they're gonna be in a full rebuild mode and want young controllable guys, not guys on the verge of, or have already cashed in on big contracts.

Why would anyone trade Zion for a rental player? AD isn't going to want to sign long term with the Knicks or anyone that might get the #1 pick.

By trading now, NO can demand more from a contending team. You could put your team over the top and get him long term.

Don't disagree that it would incredibly risky for a team with a high lottery pick to trade for Davis (and doubt it would happen), but IIRC, the team that holds AD's rights heading into free agency can offer him more than other team attempting to sign him.

All of that said, I can see the Celtics doing what it takes (short of surrendering Tatum) to get him. This has Danny Ainge written all over it. FWIW, the Celtics have the Grizzlies (top 8 protected), the Kings (unprotected) and the Clippers (lottery protected) first round picks next year and a boatload of young talent.

I said "if possible", not that it's likely. I just don't see the harm in waiting to see who has the #1 pick and dangling that out there as just another possible route to explore (however unlikely). What do contending teams have that they're willing to part with that is better than what the Celtics can offer this offseason? What do you have in mind? Why would the Pels be in such a rush?

If they wait to move AD to see who wins the lottery, the odds are he's going to the Celtics for Brown, Tatum, Smart and likely Sac's first pick.

Silver has overseen the unmitigated disasters of not smoothing the cap and the Supermax and is still somehow seen as a great commish. Seems to get no criticism solely because of his stance towards a bathroom law. Goodell should take note

And why are you saying AD wouldn’t sign long-term with the Knicks? If they can get Durant and / or Kyrie (and with Porzingis coming back), you really don’t think that would interest him?

Chris Haynes reporting the Celtics aren’t a preferred destination for Davis, which isn’t all that surprising. Also reporting that there’s concern in the Celtics that Kyrie isn’t gonna re-sign in Boston. Knicks could have a monster in a heartbeat. Could see them even being willing to part with the Zinger to put them over the top of the Celtics offer if it meant a trio of Davis, Durant, and Kyrie.

He'd be super pissed if traded to the Knicks for the rest of the season. The only asset that might vaguely interest NO is Porzingis. The Knicks have nothing else to offer.

Remember, you can only offer a #1 pick from every other year.

Again, why does it have to be done this season? They could wait to see what happens with free agency (Durant / Kyrie). A package of Zion or Barrett, Porzingis, and Knox wouldn't interest the Pelicans? It might not even take throwing in the Zinger.

I don't follow the thing about the #1 pick.

I'm a Celtics fan, but being in NYC now, holy shit, that would be fun to go to (just let Kyrie stay in Boston, pls).

JC gets two 3s and three point play in the first seven minutes against the Clippers. Of course his coach is from the Danny Manning school of coaching and took him out.
