2018 College Football Coaching Carousel

Urban Meyer retiring after the Rose Bowl.

I guess this is why Ryan Day wasn't interviewing around

Satterfield to Louisville isn't a bad hire, but makes you wonder if UNC even made a strong run at him or not? If he would leave App for Louisville, why not UNC?

Walt Bell to UMASS?? Forgive me if I am wrong, but I wasn't overly impressed with the Florida State Offense to consider giving the guy a head coaching job. Say what you will about the quality of prospects, many an older coordinator would give their eye teeth for an FBS head coaching job, just to get the opportunity to run their own program for once. I guess the trend is to go younger, everyone looking for the next McVay.

Kliff to USC as OC

Didn't realize Helton had fired Tee Martin -- his name was getting some buzz for a head coach position last year

Kansas State coaching candidates:

1. Brent Venables - Clemson DC; K State alum
2. Seth Littrell - North Texas HC - reportedly interested
3. Jim Leavitt - Oregon DC; former USF HC
4. Chris Klieman - ND State HC - 3 FCS Nattys
5. Mike Norvell - Memphis HC - possible distraction for WF's bowl opponent
6. Neil Brown - Troy HC - won at LSU and Troy over the last couple of years

Long shots:

1. Gary Patterson - TCU HC; K State alum
2. Mike Leach - Wazzu went 10-2, but still got left out of the New Years Six Bowl games

Bill Snyder's hoped for replecement:

Son, Sean, current special teams coach; if Sean Snyder gets the job, K State will be looking for its next coach soon.

Martin's primary sin was not having true freshman JT Daniels (or anyoen else) ready to perform at a Sam Darnold level after Darnold departed after his redshirt sophomore season. USC wasn't good on either side of the ball this year though.

Please take Brett Venables.

Also, I haven't heard a word about it, but are there any minority coaches moving around this month ?

I really don't see him as a head coach (too volatile) but if he was going to any head coaching job, I'd think this would it.

I've read some rumblings about Mel Tucker to Colorado, don't know if its official yet.

Oh shit, If forgot all about that. Cam up on my phone as I was popping my first beer. Things have been a bit of a whirlwind since then.

Who’s on the radar for App? Has to be one of the better G5 jobs

My guess would be Tim Horton, Auburn's RB Coach and one of their top recruiters. He's got App connections and was the #2 choice to Satterfield when the job came open after Jerry left.

Leavitt is a Snyder disciple as well.

Sounds like Urban is staying on in some capacity with the OSU AD, but they're being coy about it. I'm assuming they're still figuring out what that capacity is and what he can/can't "legally" do in terms of working with players, recruits, etc.

Unless K-State really ponies up Venables isn't going anywhere as he has it too good at Clemson. The guy rarely recruits (Dabo does all that) and basically sits in a room all day dreaming up ways to stop offenses. Its the perfect job for 2+mil a year.

Anyway if he were gonna take a head job, he could do way better than this. The weather blows in Manhattan KS.

Heard that Nate Woody is on the list. He was the DC under Satterfield until 2017, and then left to take take the DC job at GT.

Their current DC Bryan Brown, and OC Shawn Clark. Wisconsin RB Coach John Settle was a star at App in the 1980s (had some big games against WF), and former ECU HC Ruffin McNeil was a DC at App State under Jerry Moore.

The Canadian "Duncan Donuts" mogul?

Is that the same Locksley that was horrible at New Mexico?

Not sure. Mike Locksley was a former assistant at MD and was pretty pissed he didn’t get the job when Durkin was hired. Known as a phenomenal recruiter of the DMV.
