NC State game 7:30 Thursday

The defense had subtly improved that last couple of weeks. IIRC, WF held Cuse to its second lowest yardage total last week, but the defensive performance was camouflaged by WF 3 TOs. Last night, the defense was outstanding. Lots of energy. Glenn was all over the place. Also, despite being a common target of criticism, Luke Masterson has become a serviceable LB. While many just gave it lip service, a big reason for the defensive struggles was injuries. The D is getting healthier, and players that made mistakes due inexperience early in the season are starting to figure it out. Our defense is far from loaded, but the WF D is light years ahead of where it was a month ago.

Yeah Wake's defensive performance ranked in the 77th percentile last week against Syracuse (third best of the year behind only Tulane at 78% and Rice at 91%).

Defense improving over three weeks has been the story of the season. Defense played well against cuse. Makes you wonder if wake pulls out a w over cuse with Newman?!

or if Wake pulls out a w over cuse playing a more deliberate offense

This is arguably the most satisfying win in my lifetime given how tumultuous this season has been.

State sure as shit wouldn't have blitzed us at the end up 6 pts.

Well State sure as shit wouldn't have needed to if their NFL prospect QB had completed that 4th and 3 pass.

Yep. This and even Clawson's own quotes lend credence to the argument the big problem against Cuse was the offense.

Most satisfying non-2006 win definitely.

I think that in 2003, which is the high point of NC State football in the last 40 years, they won 10 games. And most State fans would tell you that the Tax Slayer Bowl is considered a major bowl game. (At least by State fans)

Didn't we beat them that year?

We're going to get crushed. I can't believe people have seen Hartman play this year and think there will be any QB controversy until he graduates.

Got to believe there are a lot of us thinking that this morning.

just looked. The hell? They played 5 non-conference opponents that season. Strange

Yeah, weird. They played in the "BCA Classic" at home vs New Mexico super early on 8/24. Feel like that should have been an exhibition or something.

They played in something called the BCA Classic which was one of those "special" preseason games that they used to have.

Yeah and the argument against the playoff used to be it would make the season too long.

To give an idea of how unlikely last night's win was, WF was a 6 point dog to ND and a 19 point dog to Clemson. The closing line last night was 19.
