Election Day 2018

His opponent was an empty suit who ran a thinly veiled racist campaign. Based on their debate performances alone, the race shouldn't have been close, imo.

At this point i'm just interested in the house. I dont care if we take it by 1 seat - if that happens then tonight was a success.

Fist bump MDMH. Looks like the never-trump conservative/establishment dem/socialist democrat coalition might hold the line in the house after all.

It’s wild to me that an actual nazi can get 25% of the vote anywhere, let alone alone a blue district. 40k people are seriously voting for Arthur Jones? It’s 2018, right?

Haha fuck off Kobach. That's pretty great.

Optimistic Carville makes me nervous for some reason.

Grats on Kobach, Assturtles!

This is so welcome. Kobach is scum, Laura Kelly is a boss, and I feel slightly better about my own state now.

I clearly spend less time one the tunnels since trump has been elected, but is the general sentiment from the left, disappointment?

Just curious to feel the pulse. Seems to me like the results tonight are pretty much what is expected with a slight trend towards red (but not massive).

Given that Florida was on the verge of electing its first African-American Governor against a rather bumbling opponent, and that he was ahead in the polls, and Georgia could have elected its first African-American female governor against a guy who is a thinly veiled racist and scumbag who has purged thousands of mostly minority voters from the rolls, and the overall national Senate results, yes, I don't think Democrats are feeling too good right now, especially after what's happened these past two years with Trump and the GOP. Obviously, if the Dems still take the House, and/or Beto pulls off the upset, it will be great, but watching Gillum and possibly Abrams and Beto lose is a downer, imo.

ETA: I'll still take a House majority in a heartbeat, though!

BOOM. NBC calls House for Democrats.

A few years ago, conventional wisdom was that the House was gerrymandered to hell and Democrats could never win it without a huge wave election. Now Democrats win the House in a disappointing election with at most a small wave and several missed opportunities.

You guys have a big mess to clean up, but I think you can.

It will be pulling teeth to do it, though. The Capitol is still heavily GOP unless results are surprising in the morning, but at least Kelly is going to be a strong check on them.

Seems like the South FL votes keep coming in, yet the margins pretty much stay the same. I guess there are enough Pub votes here and there across the rest of the state to offset it.
