2018-19 College Basketball Season-Long Thread

Liberty v Lipscomb was a good game. Hope Lipscomb gets an at-large bid. Scottie James on Liberty is a flopping, dramatic, annoying asshole. If ever a player deserved a nut punch, its that guy.

Impressed by the will to win of the collection of players Wes has accumulated. They play below themselves often and dig themselves holes but they've been exceptional in the clutch.

Don't think it's super sustainable but they've found a way to do that all year

Fun stat to consider:

Since KP started in his ratings in 2002, every National Champion, but one (UCONN in 2014) was ranked in the top 20 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Currently, their are 8 teams that fit that criteria (current offense and defensive efficiency rated in order):

- UVA 2 and 3
- Zaga 1 and 18
- Duke 6 and 7
- Mich State 4 and 9
- Michigan 18 and 2
- KY 13 and 8
- Houston 19 and 15

Is that based on pre-tourney rankings?

Good catch on UNC. Yes, at least as disclosed on VSIN.

Despite what some here will say, that's useful info for filling out your brackets.

Michigan surprises me a bit because they have a tendency to go through some nasty dry spells offensively. Doesn't surprise me they're #2 defensively. If they play UVA, the combined score could be in the 60s.

Edited to add that we were speaking a while back about there being 8 teams, including 7 of those 8 and Tennessee, who all seemed clearly to be in a tier above everyone else. That stat certainly solidifies that belief we had.

Big game tonight: Wofford (28-4) v. UNC-G (28-5) in Asheville for the SoCon title. To confirm the game's enormity, DR will be there.

Wofford is ranked in the coaches' (#20) and writers' polls (#20) and is #20 in KP. They look to be a #5 or 6 seed. UNC-G needs to win to get in the dance.

Wofford has not lost since December 19 at Mississippi State (a game Wofford led at the half). Last year, UNC-G beat the Terriers in the semis 56-55 on the way to an NCAA bid. Wofford avenged that loss with two dominating wins over UNC-G in the regular season (72-43 at UNCG; 80-50 at Wofford; that is making a statement). Since beating ETSU in OT on February 7, Wofford has just cruised, winning its last 8 games by an average of 19 PPG.

KP projects a 75-67 Wofford win. The Vegas line -7.5 136.5. FWIW, UNC-G is rated #1 in the nation in KP's luck factor. UNC-G is 14-1 in games decided by single digits and 7-0 in games decided by 5 or less.

Jerry Palm has three SoCon teams in NCAA in his latest projections. Doubt that will happen but big for that conference.

I like UNCG to at least cover, they'll want to set it right after the two blowouts. Plus Wofford is in and UNCG has a lot of vets who wanna get back to the dance.

And yeah, much as I'd love to see that much mid-major love Jerry Palm's gone off the deep end there

Really strong 1st team all-ACC! Zion, Barrett, Cam Johnson, Guy & De'Andre Hunter

Williamson and teammate RJ Barrett were joined on the first team by North Carolina's Cam Johnson and two players from Virginia: Kyle Guy and De'Andre Hunter, the league's defensive player of the year.

Williamson received 49 votes for the overall award and 47 for the rookie award. Bennett had 30 votes to claim his fourth coaching award in 10 seasons with the Cavaliers.

Duke freshman Zion Williamson has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference's player and rookie of the year, and Virginia's Tony Bennett was picked as coach of the year.
