2018-19 College Basketball Season-Long Thread

Georgia Tech - Wake Forest is easily the saddest game of the modern ACC era.

To borrow a phrase from the late, great Lewis Grizzard, the equivalent of two mules fighting over a turnip in an alley.

There are still nine undefeated teams this year. The list in order of when they should lose their first game by-

Buffalo, December 18
Texas Tech, December 20
Furman, December 21
St. Johnson, December 29
Kansas, January 5
Houston, January 6
Virginia, January 9
Nevada, January 12
Michigan, January 13

Buffalo beat Cuse tonight to stay unbeaten. Consecutive home losses to ODU and Buffalo for Cuse.

Well the first one gets revised to maybe Friday Dec 21. Buffalo at Marquette. If Buffalo wins that game, it will be some random conference game that will be their first loss.

1st time in Boeheim's career he has had back to back OOC home losses.

That's a sort deceptive concept. For most of the first thirty-five years or so of Boeheim's tenure at 'Cuse, they played among the weakest OOC schedules in the country each year. Plus, they rarely played more than a couple of OOC road games.

Some good ACC/SEC games tonight. UVA @ South Carolina and Auburn @ NC State.

Which USC team will show up? The one that led GW by 38 at the half or the one that lost to Wofford by 20? The Hoos are fun to watch in any event.

Probably doesn't much matter given that the Cocks' weaknesses are UVA's strengths on offense but hey this is why they play the game.

South Carolina has four wins this year - all against teams outside the top 200 in KP. They have losses to three top 100 teams, 172 (Stony Brook), and 210 (Wyoming). Yeah good luck Cocks.

(56) St. Johns: .00%
(10)Texas Tech: .01%
(92) Furman: .03%
(2) Virginia: .03%
(36)Houston: .06%
(4) Michigan: .10%
(3) Kansas: .10%
(22) Buffalo: 1.5%
(7) Nevada: 10.2%

Perhaps interesting to only me, I've updated the above with their projected chances of going undefeated per, of course, KP.

In order from least to most likely to go undefeated along with their KP rank (hint one of these is not like the others - Furman was not even top 100 until they just blew out UNCW earlier this week).

Impressively, four of these teams have played top 100 schedules so far (Kansas, Michigan, Nevada, Buffalo). Kansas has played the 15th hardest, the other three are between 80 and 100. Furman, St. Johns, Texas Tech, Virginia, and Houston have all played one of the 50th easiest schedules in the nation with TT playing the fourth easiest. Don't worry - Wake wouldn't be undefeated even against these schedules as we're currently 6-3 against the 24th easiest schedule in the country.

Keats with 4 wins v top 10 teams already. How many has Wake had in the entire Bzz/DM era?

Duke in 2014 and Louisville in 2017, too.
