Justice Ginsburg breaks 3 ribs in a fall

With the new Senate coming in, if a vacancy opens, Trump could appoint Eric Trump or even Baron and either would sail through the confirmation process.

Her not making it for two more years would be absolutely tragic for the country.

It’s not popular to say but she should have retired 8 years ago and definitely shouldn’t have tried to stick around for President Hillary. Her pride and selfishness could undo her legacy.

She's earned the right to work as long as she wanted. She's clearly still competent. Don't know why you're ascribing pride and selfishness to her.

That or she still considers herself (and is correct) one of the 9 brightest legal scholars in the country and still has a drive to try to enact justice through her position on the SCOTUS.

And none of that will matter if a Republican gets to replace her on the Court.

Say hello to your next Supreme Court associate justice - Amy Coney Barrett

I'm sure you'd take well to working your whole life to reach the peak of your profession, then having somebody tell you when you should step down to suit their own selfish interests.

Her selfish interest was sticking around. The collective best interest of her supporters was for her to step down and ensure someone would replace her who would carry on her fight.

no one told her to step down. that was the problem.

By comparison, Trump and his people worked on Kennedy and replaced him with one of his former clerks.

Why? You're saying she should have stepped down during Obama's presidency when there was no indication that she couldn't do the work so that Obama could replace her. What if she really enjoyed the work? What if getting up and doing that kind of work is what keeps her going, keeps her happy? She has a lifetime appointment that she earned. You're calling/inferring that she's selfish because in your view she put her needs over the collective, but isn't what you're asking is that she put your interests above her own? Why the fuck should she do that? There's no crystal ball. Hindsight is 20/20. It may have just been as simple as she liked her job and wanted to keep doing it. Second, she doesn't owe anybody jack shit about when she should retire if she can do the work. Third, you wouldn't be saying this about her if she hadn't just broke her ribs.

And that's fine. Kennedy earned the right to make that decision/calculation as well. No other justice, or any federal judge for that matter, is under the same obligation to make the same decision.

She was 77 eight years ago. Get out of here with that crystal ball nonsense.

she owes a duty to the Republic to make good decisions.

Christ we have the dumbest president in the history of the US and he will get three SC appointments?

Well clarence thomas should just retire right now @ 70 based on the actuarial tables. Somebody get this information to him right away!

Breyer is 5 years younger than Ginsburg, what was he thinking not retiring under Obama. How selfish of him. Weird how nobody mentions his name as if he's not old too.
