2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

Doesn't matter in an era of rubes believing anything with the word "socialism" in it is a boogeyman that will lead to hundreds of millions of deaths.

It does matter from a substantive policy vantage point.

Numbers is right

Not quite sure if itc is outing himself as a rube or ignorant on matters of policy

the question, to literally everyone else, is "does it matter?"

and the answer is no, no it doesn't

It doesn’t matter only because Fox News has successfully advanced the narrative that they are the same thing. Bernie and his policy proposals are the not the same as Lenin and his policy proposals. Bernie, as far as I know, has never said he is a socialist nor sought the endorsement of the American Communist Party or the Socialist Party of America.

I'm sure he's described himself as a socialist in the past, but if you look at the policies he has championed and the topics he advances over his last couple decades in the Senate there's nothing to suggest that he's actually a devout Marxist or anything.

no, just practical.

Perhaps we can use the current diversity of political views that are being thrust into the mainstream as a teaching lesson to increase the political knowledge of our country rather than simply chalking things up to "they're practically the same because that's the way a large portion of the electorate views it."

sure, i agree. but if you're planning to win an election by educating the mainstream voting populace on the finer points of DSA policy (which the M&M twins can't even articulate) vs. True Socialism then i guess we're fucked

I guess we’re fucked then

(because a message board request went unrequited? am I doing it right?)

I'm not planning to win an election that way but if it's a byproduct of having further left viewpoints in the process then let's take the opportunity while we're here.

he calls himself a socialist, did you miss that?

I do know this Bernie Sanders preferred policies would put him at the far left end of Nordic politics and economies.

The US has a much more progressive tax system than any Nordic country.

Bernie wants to institute most Nordic social welfare measures by making the US tax system even more progressive than it is.

What would you call that?

What’s more progressive about America’s system compared to Scandinavia? Isn’t the top marginal effective tax rate for most of the countries over 50 percent?
