2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

Seriously, has there ever been a generation of Americans that is so reluctant to give up the reigns of power and just fade away as the Boomers? The GI generation gave up the political ghost with Dole, who at 73 in 1996 was already regarded as ancient. Earlier generations also seemed to know when it was time to exit stage left. But Boomer pols of all political stripes just seem to be determined to cling to power and control with every last shred of finger strength left in their wrinkled, liver-spotted hands. Sometimes I get the feeling both parties will still be running Boomer presidential candidates in wheelchairs and walkers (and completely senile) ten years from now.

That's what all generations do. How long did Thurmond stay in the Senate? Ever think about the fact people are living longer?

You guys are hilarious in acting like this is something new.

It's not really an advantage if they were looking for a minority candidate equal or better than Warren. If a minority candidate had been hired over Warren, it would have been because that candidate was as good or better than Warren. And there certainly could have been candidates who actually were equal to better than Warren but the powers that be were blinded by their biases and didn't realize it.

That's the heart of it. Is there so much existing bias against minorities that even explicit efforts to hire minority candidates instead of white candidates is not enough to overcome it? Or does the goal of hiring minority candidates create bias against white candidates that leads to the best qualified candidates being passed over because they're white? (And if so, is that ok, and to what extent?) Probably both are true in some cases.

Generations yield power when they can no longer get elected. Show me some stats that indicate GI and Silent generation politicians retired and stopped running for office in greater numbers than Boomers or any other generation for that matter.

This is the oldest ever Congress, and the two that preceded it were the next two oldest. But it mostly tracks linearly with life expectancy. No generation has relinquished their political power earlier than any other in the 20th century. Don't know about before then.

RJ's right on this one. Let's not overplay the all boomers suck card.
