2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

i thought bernard was BACK

That's just in a couple of IA polls where Buttigieg is polling better. Pete is still in high single digits and in 4th behind Sanders overall.

Interesting side note about Steyer who is in 5th at 3% in that IA poll. I hadn't read or heard much about him thus far, but I was visiting family over the weekend and heard my dad say he really liked Steyer. My dad is a tea bagger who loved Dave Brat before my dad moved from the Richmond area. He of course voted for Trump, though now realizes Trump isn't the best president we've had. My dad would probably prefer a Romney or Kasich to Trump and could go in any direction in the general. I know next to nothing about Steyer - so can the Tunnels give me an idea as to what he's about? And my Trump loving sister does like 1 Dem candidate - Tulsi. But really couldn't say why. If Tulsi has been on Tucker Carlson and Hannity, that would explain that.

Bernie supporters shouldn't be too concerned yet. Iowa is a very good state for Buttigieg and his polling in other early states is not nearly as positive for him. He could certainly Jed Bartlet his way from 3rd place in Iowa to winning some Super Tuesday contests, but he has to take down Biden in basically every policy category and Warren in the momentum category. Meanwhile, Bernie has some decent early states right after Iowa (New Hampshire the most obvious) and a poor result in Iowa won't be a death knell.

Pete is definitely planning to snowball from a strong Iowa showing. It’s a good strategy for an unknown candidate to spread his name through results instead of ad buys.

I'm hoping (for you mainly) that Pete's last debate and lead up to the debate was an anomaly because last week was just an awful look from the guy. Running a #nowecant campaign to the right of Biden, in particular, just doesn't seem to be the best use of his time even if it probably reflects his donors' interests.

It wasn't a good look, at least vs. Warren. Stepping up and demanding time did help him. I'm not a big fan of debates because they highlight artificial differences in policy. He needs to better explain why he's saying we can't do the biggest things. If it's because he things it will be easier to pass with Republicans, that goes directly against what he was saying 7 months ago that put him on the radar that it's not worth worry about what Republicans think because they're going to call everything socialist anyway.

Tom Steyer is a rich dude looking for a vanity project. He put a bunch of money into ads in 2017 that featured himself arguing that Trump should be impeached. After criticism, he also put money into registering young voters. He initially said he wasn't going to run, then months later changed his mind and said he'd spend $100 million of his own money in the primary. I believe he mainly parrots Warren's talking points.

Tulsi has indeed been on Tucker Carlson's show.

Even in the run up to the debate, though. He came out oddly aggressive and conservative. His social media/media position on guns, in particular, was just unnecessary. Even if you're going to run as a Republican on firearms, it's not a great look to come out looking for a fight and sniping low-polling members of your own parties for having perspectives that differ from #nowecant.

I agree. He seems to be going away from what got him where he is.

Thanks. Yeah, my sister loves Carlson, though is not so enamored with Hannity. If Steyer is a Warren clone, I can't imagine why my dad would like him. Maybe it's because he's a rich guy who is running on his money. I tend to try to avoid talking to my dad and that sister as much as possible.

And yeah, being advised by Zuckerberg is a yuge negative for me. God I hate that guy. Nice for him to believe so fervently in free speech that he won't combat false information and will allow Facebook to be used to assist a genocide. This Dem field is so underwhelming.

Zuckerberg doesn't believe in free speech at all. He believes in charging anyone with a nickel to advertise anything, any lie or any hate on Facebook. Zuckerberg gives whores a bad name.

I think it's interesting that you brag unabashedly on another thread about CA incredible economy, but then turn around and shit on the guy that's responsible for reshaping it.

How is that interesting at all? One asshole out of nearly 40 million people. One billionaire out of probably hundreds.

As to reshaping CA's economy, there were tech companies long before Zuckerberg and since that had nothing to do with him.

Hell, Facebook is only the 30th largest employer in CA. https://www.zippia.com/advice/biggest-companies-in-california/

FYI, even Disney has nearly ten times as many employees in CA than Facebook. Facebook isn't even in the Top 10 tech employers in CA.

Occasionally, it would be nice if you actually knew something before posting.

You don't think the two largest social media platforms reshaped the economic models of the tech industry?

Buying Instagram is not creating or reshaping anything.

The entire information sector is only the #3 industry in CA. That includes companies like Google, Apple, HP, Oracle, Intel and others. Facebook is a nice company but it didn't reshape anything. It's just another company.

Stop while you are behind...PLEASE...

Facebook is so powerful people talk about it, like google, acting like an independent nation
