2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

Campaign fundraising doesn't have to be a minefield. There are blueprints, the two best fundraisers in Democratic politics right now, who do it without big money.

I mean for people who aren't senators with name recognition and cash in hand from prior campaigns. How is a candidate without a national profile supposed to fundraise for a year or more before people actually vote to compete in a 20+ person campaign? It's one thing to say they shouldn't seek big money, but it's another level of arrogance to claim it's easy for anybody to do what Sanders and Warren can do.

I said "It's not good" in response to Townie saying Pete wasn't disclosing fundraisers and bundlers. Y'all are getting into some "But will he criticize him? NAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" territory. It's not a good look.

Ok, but AOC did it, unseated a sitting, cash-rich, and ranking senior Dem all with small donations. Plus a big wave did it in 2018 across the country, many times as first time candidates with no name recognition whatsoever.

The reason I'm hammering Pete for this and not Biden (or Klobuchar or others who take big money) is that Pete signed the pledge, gave back $30k early on the campaign trail, talked about structural campaign finance reform in early debates and then changed strategy out of necessity, carving that lane you always talk about. That's the kind of thing that *should* tarnish your reputation, transparently going back on your word within a single campaign cycle. Coupled with going back on his pledge of transparency, and hammering Warren on her personal finances and now heel turning back to not revealing his bundlers, it is worth scrutinizing.

He's quite young and has time to run again, but my concern is the party and Big Money has its teeth in him.

There's a massive difference between winning a House primary in a blue district and the marathon of running for President.

I acknowledged he took the heel turn out of necessity and much like Kamala not being able to continue her campaign, I will say it’s bad that Bloomberg and Steyer and the like can buy their way in while others have to beg, borrow and steal. Again though, it’s the cynical turn that is of concern.

As usual, you jump to contusions. We are already partly socialistic and will naturally evolve towards more. But man isn't ready yet.

My bad, you think Star Trek is a documentary.

Republicans are set to wipe away all progressive gains made after WWII.

I’m really curious how people will hate on Pete for how he addressed these protesters.

Here is Pete explaining his time at McKinsey.

It’s amazing to see the grace with which he handles this bullying from people who are supposedly all on the same team. I really think we are seeing the fruits of the strength and resilience he developed as a closeted gay youth growing up in South Bend. He’s dealt with the bullies before. They didn’t stop him from coming back to South Bend as mayor and they won’t stop him in this campaign.

I wonder if at his time at McKinsey working on cost cutting measures for a healthcare org he got the idea for M4AWWI

Sunrise Movement folks quietly holding up a banner in protest is “bullying?” Lol

What do you mean? Same reason you all hate him I guess.

He’s a grown man running for President. I’m impressed with his tact. That doesn’t qualify him for office, but he has handled most of his public heat professionally. He will be a great Governor or Senator of Indiana.

That’s just one example. At least they had the stones to do it to his face even if they demurred and slunk up after he acknowledged them and allowed them to protest.

Why do you say that if you think he’ll be an awful President?

I mean do you think there are legitimate reasons BLM protestors and Sunrise people would show up to a campaign event or are they just Bernie plants/bullies?

Or I’ll put it another way, which was closer to my original point: did you know BLM protestors have been at his speeches since before he started running for president?

Are they protesting things that are true or all they making up BS? There’s a big difference.

Either way, I think it’s kind of silly to protest Dem candidates just to draw attention to yourself. At this point, the candidates aren’t really excluding anybody from their own agendas and they’re courting every possible vote. It’s not like early in Bernie’s 2016 campaign where he was running on class and ignoring race and protestors had to shock him into including race in his campaign platform. Every candidate in this election is openly taking about how they will address racism and discrimination. Seems like protestors are just trying to build up their own candidate by fomenting hate for other candidates instead of bringing forgotten issues to the table.

So what’s your criticism of how Pete is handling protestors?

Where’s that picture of the white person shouting down the black woman during a black women event? I feel like that happens a lot here to a lesser degree. Maybe frame the question, Ph why do you disagree with BLM protesting Mayor Pete? As one of the only black posters why do you feel Pete is a better candidate for the black community than the other choices? Do you simply believe it’s his ability to implement his policies or is it the actual policies?
