2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

I would give Bernie the advantage in Iowa. It is a caucus state. I think what Nate Cohn wrote was pretty compelling.

If Biden wins Iowa, this race is effectively over.

I agree IA being a caucus state favors Sanders, and I think he'll outperform his polling numbers there accordingly. But I still see IA being very close and agree with District that the end result could well be a bit muddy.

That said, I don't see how you can claim the race is over if Biden wins IA. Historically, IA isn't always predictive. Add to that Sanders will win neighboring NH has a good shot at NV, another caucus state. Biden's only February win could be SC. Add to that Biden is having to fend off not only Buttigieg but also Klobuchar and Bloomberg, who are both starting to poll halfway decently. If it's a 2 horse race by Super Tuesday, Biden should do well that day. But if it's still a 6-7 horse race, that could really dilute the establishment vote, and Bernie could come out of ST in 1st position. I have nowhere near your level of confidence in Biden at this point. I also don't think the Rogan endorsement hurts him in any way.

That said, I agree wholeheartedly that Hillary slung little to no mud Sanders' way in 2016, although she and her minions did do their best to rig the primary process. There was a Politico piece this morning talking about this. Conservative news outlets like the Hill are quick to praise candidates like Sanders and Gabbard, but as soon as he sews up the nomination, they'll unleash war on him. I know Dems don't want to enrage each others' supporters, but Sanders recent surge is going to trigger more attacks.

Why hasn't Trump been hammering Bernie? He attacks everyone else. Could it be that he strongly feels he'll beat Bernie easily?

It does crack me up the number of times Strickland and townie have like tore me a new one over some innocuous statement I make and yet they get their little feelings hurt every time somebody dares criticizes their positions.

Most likely answer is that he thinks Biden is going to win and thinks his best path is to pit Bernie supporters against him. I don't really care what he thinks though, because he is a moron.

I mean if you look at the polling though even in a 6-7 person eace Biden has pretty significant polling leads in a lot of big Southern States. So I would be very surprised if he wasn't in the delegate lead after Super Tuesday.

If Biden wins A Corn Belt caucus State I just don't see much of a way to beat him.

Trump is a moron, but his one talent is marketing. Bernie is such an easy target and on so many levels.

No, Pub strategists have been quite open that the person they most want to run against is Sanders. This is also why most conservative news outlets treat him with kid gloves for now. I think the question for Sanders is if he brings enough new folks to the polls to offset the number of independents and moderate Pubs he'll lose.

lol but here's the thing, what is trump really going to do other than throw the word "SOCIALIST" at bernie? that didn't work against Obama in 08, and it won't work in 2020

what are you gonna do, ask him about his gun record? which way do you go with it? say he's got a D- grade from the NRA and isn't pro-guns enough? or say he hasn't worked on meaningful gun regulations while he could have? trump can't really say he's handled guns better by any stretch.

go the catamount way and say "we've got teh best economy ever people, is now really the time for socialism?" and bernie can just point to the absurd poverty numbers and lack of wage growth and struggling ppl everywhere that continue to be left behind.

trump went after hillary for being corrupt and the shit stuck because it's fucking true and people hate and distrust the clintons and he got right to the heart of the issue.

I still don't get how confident you are in Biden. His support is wide but not deep. Once it is perceived that he is starting to lose his mental faculties or his political edge, folks will abandon him in droves for Buttigieg, Bloomberg or Klobuchar. Hasn't happened yet but it well could. The fact that his numbers are dipping a bit, while Klobuchar and Bloomberg are starting to register in the higher single digits could be reflective of some in the establishment losing faith in him.

You know what did work in 2016? A fitness accusation against Hillary.

Trump is perhaps the least fit President since Taft (and I’m not forgetting FDR) and he’ll knock Bernie for having a heart attack.

Same people been saying this since last July and he's still in the leading all the national polls with the exception of one. If he wins Iowa he will at least be very close in Nevada win South Carolina and then Super Tuesday sets up really well for him. He's ahead in the last California poll I saw. If people are going to abandon him in droves they would have already done it by now I mean when is this magical catharsis going to happen?

Sure, socialism will be an oft used word in commercials, but it's more than that. They'll be showing video of him honeymooning in the USSR, hanging out with Daniel Ortega and branding him as the next Maduro.

Because Obama WASN'T a socialist and Bernie has proudly described himself as one for over a decade.

I gotta say I am somewhat surprised that he's still near the lead in the polls and hasn't performed that badly. I mean, he's always gaffed and messed up the way he says things at times, but it's true that he hasn't messed up as badly yet as I had feared he would. That said, he looks older than Trump, Bernie and Warren and doesn't appear as sharp as he did a few years ago. So yeah, I'm still scared of him imploding.

I'm sure Joe Rogan would agree with me that it's a much more complicated and nuanced issue than the bumper sticker issue you've repeatedly try to make it on this board.

What specifically is your problem with Rogan?

Besides blindly following what the gaslighting MSM tells you to feel?

Remember when Trump, in a televised debate, asked Putin and Russia to look for Hillary's 38,000 lost emails? Sanders is a different animal than any other Dem when it comes to the Trump oppo. Trump's appeal is about draining the swamp (though clearly he did the opposite) and getting rid of establishment elite. That's kind of Sanders appeal too, and whether it's Russiagate or any of the other establishment boogeymen the media have attacked instead of directly calling out Trump, Americans will respond far better when Sanders can go directly at Trump about his sanctions, trade war, tax cuts, personal corruption, etc.

Bernie has a very short fuse. If he's the nominee, maybe they should have ring filled with Jell-O for when he and Trump lose it to fight it out.

i think everyone's just saying bernie's teflon looks a lot better from inside the Bro Belt than outside
