2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

“No way to prevent this, says only nation where this regularly happens”
But most countries don't have single payer for all with no private insurance in fact Canada is pretty much the only one. And those countries didn't have to convert from an established system where you have private employer funded health insurance for the majority of their citizens.

Because it is wholly unrealistic and everybody knows it except socialist 30 somethings and naïve college professors.
You're wrong. Not only is it realistic, it's necessary. The fact that you cant see a way through is not a concern to me. Americas problems arent limited by your imagination, and neither should their solutions be.

Getting back to the topic, Harris is fully responsible for her own claims and stances, and fuckin health care and M4A should have been the #1 question she was prepared to answer truthfully. How do you announce a campaign for Presidency 2 years in advance and still not have your shit together?

Hopefully Schultz will not be a factor in the 2020 election. But, given that he's being given so much media attention, have any of the interviewers asked him how his fiscal conservatism aligns with his attempts to get taxpayers to fund an arena for his NBA team?

Lol that you think I'm one of the socially liberal/fiscally conservative types. All or nothing with you guys again. Fuck Howard Schultz with a flaming cactus.

Agreed, especially as to Schultz. But for Strick and friends, there doesn't appear to be a political continuum to them ranging from the far left and the far right. You're either with them entirely or you're the enemy.

To be fair, M&M and Strick are unabashedly not Democrats, just like their lord and savior Bernie isn’t either.

Harris already walking back shit she said just a week ago (M4A, abolishing private insurance). Big donors must have lit her phone the fuck up. Great start, Top Cop

We should make buying Medicare coverage no different than buying United Health Care. Of course, Medicare will be dramatically cheaper due no marketing, no profits, no middlemen, dramatically lower other overhead factors. Whether it becomes a tax or employer/employee paid is irrelevant as it is the same thing.

In most western countries that have government supported insurance, people can buy additional private insurance. We already have that in place.

The reality is if Medicare is available to everyone the market will end most of the private insurance companies as we know them. But there's no reason not to let people buy insurance on top of Medicare as is available elsewhere.

So what was wrong with Harris’ stance on M4A? All I’ve seen is that she called for M4A and emphasized that it would eliminate private insurance, “If you like your plan, you can’t keep it” so to speak.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPS

yeah that wasn't meant to be taken seriously as an argument that he is a democrat, but rather to mock all the "he's not even a democrat" centrists.

Well, M4A and mixed private/public insurance systems are at odds with each other. Harris initally endorsed M4A & abolishing private health insurance. Just a week later her campaign stated that Harris actually would support any type of health care reform, including mixed systems, which are fundamentally at odds with M4A.

Of course her job as a Senator necessarily requires her to be more open minded to incrementalism, as she could simply be voting on others bills, but as the President, she would have far more ownership over the type of reform, so its very important for her to have a clear mandate.

The problem now isnt even necessarily her specific policy stance, its the fact that she so clearly doesn't have one, she is just vaguely hedging, so as not to be outflanked on the right or left.

She strongly said her M4A would eliminated private insurance. Then her people said she’d be open to compromise. Meh. She’s not abandoning it at all.

Related question. What percentage of people eligible for Medicare use some form of private insurance?

That would make sense if she endorsed "Single Payer" or "Univeral Healthcare". M4A is a specific standalone universal system that eliminates the private market, it's not something you can compromise on.

In many advanced countries, they effectively have M4A and private insurance available on top of socialized medicine. Everyone is covered by M4A but you can buy additional insurance.
