The worst 10-year stretch in modern ACC history

People are happy because a bunch of backups and coaches who stepped up salvage a chance at a winning season and kept the momentum of the program. Clawson himself said that he would have been disappointed with 6-6 out of context.

Great story. Call Hollywood.

Usually when your team plays two of the four teams in the CFP, who happen to be playing each other, networks call you up to comment on the programs, etc. When you lose by a combined 90 points to them, maybe not.

Thought this is an interesting topic, so here is some visual context for Wake's historical ACC records, we might try to break through the low floor of the late 80's. Haven't compared that to other teams as of yet.

we need to go 10-8 in the ACC this season to avoid setting a program record for futility

so, we're going to set a program record

10-18 overall is more likely. But that's not likely either.

LOL. What? It’s several weeks until the game and Clawson has his own bowl and signing day to prepare for.

What sort of analysis could he possibly offer ?

"Clemson beat us by twice as many points as Notre Dame, so I'm picking them !"

not sure why we're talking about football here

despite WF's historical dominance of the Dawgs, winning 2 out of every 3 we play against those mutts, WF football has obviously been awful

it was not that long ago that WF had the worst winning percentage among all major college football teams

basketball has been another story - until Wellman fired Dino and sent us into the abyss

Yeah but have you seen all the new facilities? And isn't the Deacon Tower just grand? That Ronald is a great man too! He always congratulates me on my corporate success!

we're talking about football because biff is still whining that the team he cheered for as a child choked against alabama again

Complaining about the football program was the last thing I thought I'd see on this thread. Some of you jamokes are just miserable.

This. UGA choking away that Bama game (again) has sand in Biff’s vagina. Go clean your minge out Tannen.

for anyone wondering what "historically competitive" meant, looks like this is what Ron had in mind because he's sure clinging to it

Someone needs to make a montage of video clips from past Ronnie, [ ], and Manning quotes which would just show what a comical AD and BB coach we currently have including the one above. What a joker.

In the same way [Redacted] broke DC, Manning broke Wrangor, and Trump broke Catamount, Uga X has broken Biff

Yet we embrace bad to mediocre football.

Apples and oranges. You must not have been around for the Bill Harper, Chuck Mills, First 2 years of Mackovic, Bill Dooley, and Jim Caldwell eras. Grobe and Clawson have each taken WF to 3 straight bowls. Grobe had the miracle year, Mackovic had a miracle year, Cal Stoll won the ACC and Dooley had a nice bowl year. Riley Skinner was the best QB in WF history. Otherwise, WF has not been historically competitive in football. On the other hand, WF basketball has been ranked #1 in the nation twice since 2004. So yes, most of us are very happy with Birmingham after the meltdown we had on defense for the first 9 games this year.

NY6 Bowl every 20 years.

But that's beside the point. Wake was objectively bad at football this past season and now everybody's cheery because they won two games in a row and are going to a rinky-dink bowl game that would rate below an NIT bid.

This is an objectively stupid take. We suffered a flukish amount of season ending injuries, played multiple games with 2 or less scholarship linebackers, and were down to our 3rd string qb playing at NC State (the toughest road venue in the state) and needing to win 2 out of 3 to become bowl eligible. No one here would have been excited about 6-6 and Birmingham at the beginning of the year. Context matters.

And if that wasn't enough, making a bowl (any bowl) has benefits. There are real differences in going 5-7 and 6-6. We get a month of extra practices which is especially important for our young players. We get increased exposure, and Clawson can brag to recruits that we've been bowling 3 straight years (and hopefully won all of them). I know this is surprising, but recruits want to play in bowl games.

Just another condescending trash take.
