Another thread got me wondering how WF basketball's recent run of regular season conference play compares to the worst in the history of the conference.

Since the season that ended in 1974, two programs have managed to have a 10-year conference winning percentage of lower than .300:

BC through 2017 49-121 .2882
NCSU through 2001 46-114 .2875 (I miss Les)

Over the last 9 years, WF and BC are both below this basketball Mendoza line:

BC 2009-10 through 2017-18: 43-113 .2756
WF 2009-10 through 2017-18: 46-110 .2949

if WF can go 4-14 or worse this season, and that seems like a lock at this point, WF will "surpass" those 10-year stretches above for the worst of the worst. But will BC stay behind WF? That BC visit to the Joel will be a must-watch!

Thanks Ron!

note: this is regular season ACC play only. Herb managed to win some ACCT games, which would push the Pack up a bit.

This stat is so depressing, it may be the worst stat I've ever read. Any large donor should see this and know it must equal #ManningOut #WellmanOut.

Isn't BC supposed to be a little frisky this year? I haven't paid much attention yet, another than checking to see whether Manning has been fired.

We are so far away from the mediocrity we were desperate to get out of.

Yet we embrace bad to mediocre football.

if we don't expect to one day win a championship, what are we even doing

If we don't set the record this year, there's always next year when Dino's final year (9-7 in conference) isn't counted.

what would you guess is Wake's football ceiling ?

NY6 Bowl every 20 years.

But that's beside the point. Wake was objectively bad at football this past season and now everybody's cheery because they won two games in a row and are going to a rinky-dink bowl game that would rate below an NIT bid.

If Wellman isn't going to fire Manning and hire a new coach by March, the least he could do is kill the program. Would rather Wake Forest not play if the other option is becoming the sewer rats of the ACC.

*two out of three games

People are happy because a bunch of backups and coaches who stepped up salvage a chance at a winning season and kept the momentum of the program. Clawson himself said that he would have been disappointed with 6-6 out of context.

Thought this is an interesting topic, so here is some visual context for Wake's historical ACC records, we might try to break through the low floor of the late 80's. Haven't compared that to other teams as of yet.

And to think that RW got rid of a basketball coach with 2 ACC titles and who averaged 20 wins per season in his 12 years.

We've gone through denial, anger, bargaining, depression and now we are finally at acceptance.

If someone said that Wake Forest is the worst basketball program in the ACC, would you really even attempt to refute it?

In polite society this is commonly being phrased as: "What happened to Wake Forest, their basketball program used to be pretty good?"

Wake Forest basketball has become completely irrelevant.

That’s the permanent problem. Just as Staak era have a different floor for the problem than Duncan era fans, this stretch will ruin the urgency to win and compete for championships.
